How do you know how many backlinks you have gained after you have submitted?

I see about 30% approved within 1 week after submission, about 60% approved after 1 month, and finally about 50% is found by search engines. Yahoo and Msn "see" such links much better than Google :)

Well, for some sites I did directory submission on my own and don't have many backlinks in overall. Before directory submission I had 12 , after it 15 ...

Although it depends on 1. how quality your website is (my was an average), 2. what directory list you use on submission.

I created this thread to find it is it worth to pay those 6-10$ for directory submission, it seems it is...

exactly. I buy 250 link packages from w3joint.com and that seems to suit me well. One of my terms is pretty competitive and I ranked top 10 on MSN/Yahoo within weeks. It's so random when the SE's will index you and your new backlinks that a shotgun method is more effective IMO!

Do you mean pay $6-10 for someone to submit your site to directories for you or $6-10 to submit your site to a paid directory?

I only submit to free directories (lots an lots of them) and it has helped my site tremedously. You don't necessarily have to submit to paid directories. However, I am not even sure if that is what you were referring to. Please clarify. :)

It'll help...not much but it helps...though when you're using free directories you'll have to wait for more than a week even a month...but still it helps for traffic(some times) and backlinks...

The third variable is how good your submission service is. For that price, it may not be very good. A lot of directory submissions will be rejected without the editor ever visiting the site, because the submission is rubbish.

For that price, you may want to write your own titles and descriptions, just to ensure that they are spelt correctly, make sense, and are relevant to the categories you will be submitting to.

A decent submission will get you a lot better results, and it's relatively easy to do for anyone with half a clue. Yet a lot of directories will end up rejecting around 90% of sites, and a lot of that is simply because the submissions go to the wrong categories.

do you guys always do the recriprical links that they ask for and if so does that outbound link hurt your PR?

I'm just starting to submit.. someone mentioned quality directories. Is there a list of quality directories?

One more question, how do you find what a sites's PR is?

I started manually submitting articles to directories about 3 months ago, and I started to notice a difference almost immediately. I went from having a handful of backlinks to about 700 at present. Not enough, but I'm working at it. It takes much more time to submit manually but doing it this way you should be able to optimize your backlinks.

It depends how long ago you've submitted the site to directories...many free directories are new so it takes time until SE index the pages and therefore your link.Give it time and submit regulary to directories .

One can get hundreds of links from the directories. But I am of the opinion that getts some relevant trusted links will turn the table.

Never. If I did, my sites would all have to turn into directories of directories, which is ridiculous. If you make a good submission for a reasonable website, you can still expect to get a decent acceptance rate.

Just wondering, is it bad to have too high of a percentage of your backlinks coming from directories? I don't think 90% of my b/l's are from directories, but I would say atleast 75% are. Any thoughts on this?

    Thoughts:

    1) Mix your links, dir submissions are good anyway but do all other linking.
    2) $6-$10 submission not worth it. They are probably automated or give very little effect.
