Hi i'm trying to rank for a keyword.when i type it in google it has 200,000k and medium competition. I was wondering would it be hard to rank for that word? I've been doing blog comments, forum comments do follow. Thinking about doing article's for it my site is brand new. anyone have any ideas how many backlinks it would take me to get on first page?

It depends on a lot...the ages of your site...if those links are quality links or spammy links...how well your website is optimized, if those keywords are on your site correct, title tags, etc.

May I ask what the site is, and what term you're trying to get?

    It's impossible to estimate, unfortunately.

Just keep building backlinks over time, constantly update your site, make sure you're doing proper on-page SEO (an often overlooked factor), and you'll be fine.

That really depends on a lot. I try to get good quality links and as many as possible. I usually don;t go below PR2.

Have you used market samurari to see how many backlinks your competitors have? And also where their links are coming from?

Just remember a few 'Quality related links' are better than a hundred links that are not related to your website.

look on the 3 first result on google than check how many links they have,

than you will be able to estimate how much links you need

no one can tell how many back links need, but there are some facts such as
    - age of your domain (more older more better)
    - PR of your domain
    - your back links coming from trusted high PR sites or from splogs
    - your site is search engine friendly or not, URL type (on site SEO)

Market samurai can give you info on the backlinks for the webpage you want to out rank for. I think Spyglass can do that as well. what you want to look for is how many backlinks are actually referencing the keyword you want to rank for. if your competing page has 1000 backlinks going to it but maybe 50 actually have an anchor text to your keyword, you may be able to outrank it if you build more backlinks (i.e. 500) with your keyword as the anchor text. the thing is though, we don't really know the exact number of backlinks. the app may say 1000 but it could be 10,000. but at least you have a starting point.

PR 1 and 2 is easy to reach. But three and above requires harder work. Good luck.

Age is not factor as you always use to claim.

Check www.timesofassam.com. This is not even a 1 year old domain. But it has got Indian News based keyword targeted rankings well, also Google News approval.

As per my knowledge The site was launched to live in September 2010.

Not so, if you don't do link spamming.

You were correct to maximum extend, but your order of points are descending.

Domain Structure is the prime key.

And you have forgotten to mention one more thing I think. "Clicks per Impression rate". :)

Do backlinks as many as you can, just continue what you did collect and collect quality links, just be patient since it is not easy to rank a site.
