I would go for as many as you can but the point is should be relevant and from high PR websites. I have a team who do regular link building for my client around 300 a day but all are from good PR and from relevant. Quantity doesn't matter Quality matters. So go for quality

as everyone says, quality matters rather than quantity. I would 2nd that.

To answer to your original question, you should keep it within your limits. By it what i mean is, you should not stop building links (Yea if its about building links anyway). If you start from 40, go with it per day and slightly increase but at the same time make sure your links are indexed/crawled as well.

If you build 100, be consistent. A quick blast makes noise but after that everything comes backs to where it was however slow and steady push will keep you pushing up all day. Makes sense ?

Yes link building is beneficial still it shell not be given priority, because at present people don't focus much on backlinks through link building, having a good quality of content on your website will do the job for you.

Hi, it depends on the type of links you are creating. If your users are creating natural backlinks to your site, there is no limit. But, if you are using schemes such as farm links, fake reciprocal links, etc... you will quickly attract scrutiny and you may be kicked out of many ad networks programs. The number does not matter. If your links are useful to the user, and posted at the right locations (i.e., relevant to your site content), then there is no real limit.

The amount of backlinks that you want to build should be determined by the amount of backlinks your competitors have. Their amount of backlinks indicates how many you need to even compete in the top ten Google search results.

Google uses a formula that determines what site gets and stays in the top ten results; these include: site age, amount of backlinks a site has, social website power, high authority backlinks, and of course relevant content.

an easy way to find this data on your competitors based on keyword research is to use the free software program at traffic travis.com they reveal a lot of data on a site's backlinks so you can use to determine how many backlinks you need to beat out the competition.

once that is done build up quaility backlinks progressively over time. You can set the number of backlinks you want to build a day by the information that you got.

    I hope that helps

I hope 200-300 links are sufficient in day. coz if you try more back links or over optimization then you can lose your web page decrease from search engine.

Quality backlinks should be better than quatity backlinks.
But if you can do quality and quatity backlinks in a day, I think you're crazy.

Concentrate on quality content for your site.. If you do have good content on your site then it will be shared through tweets and likes in Facebook.. you will have more "reach" this way.. (backlinks).. you can still do backlinks but I wouldn't go heavy on it..

There is no limit . because when you submitting any directories, blogs. so they does not approve instantly . so you don't need to afraid that Google will penalize your website . but always get quality source backlinks.

It is not false if we say backlinks works as the backbone of the website in increasing its rank in search engine results pages, so always try to do submissions on websites having good page ranks.
