How many backlinks should i obtain per month?

I have a 3 years old site that was hit by penguin two months ago because of agressive link building. I am about to start a less agressive but more penguin-friendly link building campaign to recover my previous rank if possible.

My question is how many backlinks would you recommend to obtain per /month for a site with 12 internal pages? Any advice will be appreciated.

As long as you don't get the link via auto, it should be fine. I suggest do a guest posting to some relevant sites.

Too many is too obvious.. people have learned that lesson.

If google suspects that you have paid for a link on a site that mainly sells links, or a general directory site, then it 'may' prove bad and affect your ranking.

Its an old story, but find god quality sites related to your subject and get a link on there somehow.
Or write a unique and inteesting article on your subject and put in a decent blog or reputable article site.
Write good content on your own site and people will find it.

Basically , quality NOT volume. Unless you can achieve quality volume :p

As many as you can get relevant, quality links.

Trust me, getting quality links won't come in quantity, which makes your site rank "better".

So, you won't need to worry how many built links are "too much".

As long as the velocity is natural it doesn't really matter :) If you wanna build up to a lot of links per day, grow to that SLOWLY day by day. I don't build more than 20 or so links a day, just to be safe. Let's be honest, do 30 or 40 people NATURALLY link to most people's blogs a day? Probably not :)

It's not about quantity but rather quality baclinks. You are far better of searching for authority sites to create quality links, you will enjoy the hard work... believe me I know !

    Relevancy first, page rank 2nd.

Both of these factors are the key determining factors in how Google rates the quality of the link.

The strength of the page rank it comes from tells Google that it already knows the site is 'quality' in its eyes.
The releevancy adds more power to that link when that other sites content matches your own.

even better if you are the only or one of the few links outbounding from that other site/s.

1st step, which SEo company would do, is to work out what your own keywords are and then use a tool to find sites out there, in google ranking order, which match your keywords. By definition, these are sites you would wish to be associated with.

With a bit of luck, some of them will be quality blogs you can submit a quality article to, or a webmaster open to having a paid link on his site (nowhere near as good, but if you HAVE to exchange links then do so)

Well I would say that it's totally depends upon your link building strategy that how much links are required for your website to rank .

    There is no exact number..

    Here is the idea:

You can build as many as you want and no matter where you build them..

One thing that you must take in consideration is to make links look natural... You can achieve this by using anchor text diversity.....

Building 10k links per month with the same kw will make the look unnatural... add related secondary kw to your anchor text... Try to think how you surf on the web how you post link to site that you find relevant...

Second as said before here keep the velocity constant and increasing.... SO if you build 1000 today tomorrow you build at least another 1000. It is possible that some time you will get penalize and stat to loose rank.. the worst mistake you can make is to slow down... this will make G consider that you saw that it figure it out and slow down... Keeping constant will make google understand that this is the normal number of backlinks and your visitor like your website and keep build backlinks so when your website proof the it maturity it will start to rise again, even higher.

So keep it natural and constant....

There is no magic bullet answer to your question.

If you start by building 50 a week then just make sure you maintain that velocity and steadily increase it over time. For example build 50 links a week for 3 weeks, then creep it up to 60 and so on.

As long as you maintain that rate you'll be fine and should see positive movement in the serps on the assumption your doing things right.

If you think you have been hit by penguin then you should conduct an analysis of your backlinks with http://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/tu...acklink-profile-for-current-future-penalties/

As many as you need! Don't overdo it like others have said!
Possibly get another company or service to do it for you?

Please share your test data that bring you to this conclusion.

What I said I notice once I take a test website....

Build a huge amount of backlinks and the stop... this get the website down in SERP.

After a while I restart building bakclinks on a constant rate the website rank higher then it have another drop but a smaller one and at this time I was keeping building backlinks even speed up a little bit and it get up faster...

Focus on quality not quantity. I would rather have one high pr closely related link than a dozen low pr links that are less closely related. Don't try to fool Google.

Backlink is very much important, but from the software using get the backlink Google will not consider quality backlink.. manually you have to get backlink is quality. per month 50 to 60 is better

Backlinks are important to improve the ranking. As your site have 12 internal pages means it is a small site. You should try to get upto 10-12 backlinks. But try to give more importance to quality backlinks. I mean to say if you get 5-8 backlinks but that are quality one then also fine.
