Hy, I know this is a noob question but i couldn't find the answer...I was wondering if anyone knows how many backlinks does google tolerate to appear per week, because I don't want to get banned for spamming. Thanks a lot.

I am not sure about number of backlinks but do not make a mistake to spam a google with backlinks with same anchor text. Try to build different anchor text and also deep links

you web wouldn't be banned but your web will go to sandbox if u don't search the backlink naturally. keep searching a backlink everyday is better than made a hundred backlink on one day. SEO need time so take your time to create a backlink

    Well said friend..!

I usually consider about the quality of the backlinks rather than the quantity..

    A backlinks should be.,
    # relevant to my site
    # should have equal or high PR to my site
    # should be a quality backlink

just keep it consistent, it is very difficult question be answered get mixed opinions as you can see. I feel it should be leveraged out, keep a consistency and depending on how old your website been indexed and age plays factor. But, at the end make your Inbound links grow naturally and diverse your anchor text make sure use different descriptions!

if there was an exact number, then how could google be fair for little sites and large sites? Make sure they are natural, and varied in their anchor text and part of site it links to.

When you have link bait you could expect and influx of links, and i'm sure google calcuates this in.

While it's true that the question cannot be answered to a specific number, there are guidelines to follow. It depends on your industry. Google will tolerate more links in the Gambling sector than it will in the Golf Equipment sector. You need to have a look at the rate of new link aquisitions for you competitors & pitch yourself at the same level (maybe slightly higher).

This is good advice - make sure to vary the anchor text, I learnt this the hard way and got a +100 penalty for a main keyword.

The age and current level of links also makes a difference. An old established site can take a lot more links than a new site.

Unless you are getting hundreds of backlinks a day, I don't think you should worry too much about getting penalized by g00gle as the links will not be picked up by google all on the same day.

Here is the information from Google's US Patent Application - 20050071741 - Information Retrieval Based on Historical Data
"Consider the example of a document with an inception date of yesterday that is referenced by 10 back links. This document may be scored higher by (Google) than a document with an inception date of 10 years ago that is referenced by 100 back links because the rate of link growth for the former is relatively higher than the latter. While a spiky rate of growth in the number of back links may be a factor used by (Google) to score documents, it may also signal an attempt to spam search engine 125. Accordingly, in this situation, (Google) may actually lower the score of a document(s) to reduce the effect of spamming."

I probably end up with 150-200 backlinks by the end of the week for my web 2.0 blog. However my PR is still at 0, so I think this may be affecting me negatively...

The best approach you could take is to not worry so much about the number but your links naturally over time. If you build links naturally over time the search engines should notice the natural growth and it will keep your website out of trouble.

There is no set number, you should just maintain a steady link velocity. You sometimes cannot control how many backlinks you acquire since you may publish an article on a really popular topic and people may choose to link back to your site.

Focus on low quantity and high quality when you build backlinks.
