Get as many as you can.. But you have to be careful do not get spam links...try to focus on solid links..inappropriate links can harm your ranking..So always think about quality first and then numbers. Cheers
Sorry guys but this may sound dull. By backlinks are we talking comments? Somehow I've got over 16,000 for my blog and I don't know how I've got them. I do a fair bit of commenting on other blogs but I've not commented 16,000 times. Just found this forum as I'm just a blogger and don't know anything about tech stuff so again, sorry if my post sounds stupid.
Simple more is better and don't only concentrate on number you should look for quality as well i mean to say they should be on high PR web pages.
Dont focus on the amount of backlinks, but rather the quality of them. Dont get 6000 at once, get them done slowly. I know a site that has 100k backlinks, so the more; the better.
Like all others have pointed out, quality is better than quantity. Btw, who would say enough to backlinks? Tell them who say so to link back to me lolz~
If you have 300 high quality links, in Alexa that is good, but you could have 3000 poor quality, links that result in nothing at all,
I think this is one of those topics where "the more the better" applies! Just have as many as you can!
I would say you can never have too many. Adding too many too quickly though, that might get you penalised. Like they said, quality over quantity. I'm wondering does linking back through a sig on a forum count one link for every thread you post on, or does it count the whole forum as one link? ...My main competitor has over 5,000. I got 4,500 to create XD
A few really high quality ones could be all that you need to pass the competition. 6,000 isn't necessarily a ton. Sometimes it's just a site wide link on a few sites which means it shouldn't be too hard to pass (or at least copy).
Accumulating more and more high quality back links but i think the best way to beyond your competitors is attract your users
Gaining more and more backlinks to the site is not harmful but its a continuous process that should be done, and quality backlinks do not have any numbers.
backlinks are like a win from a lottery - the bigger the better...and dollars better than a peso. So, yes, high quality and consistent quantity helps, helps, helps
And do a lot of research - go thru forums like this one, there are a lot of good Webmasters here, and they are good enough to give great advice. Ask! And learn.
The more backlinks the better. However, you have to make sure that these links pointing to your blog are quality ones. Even if you have more backlinks than your competitor's sites but the links you have are not of high quality and worse, if the sites have bad reputations, it will greatly affect your site's rank.
