How many good quality backlinks do you need to increase your pr. My pr is still 0 I have 50 backlinks ( all have a 4,5,or 6 pr)all mainly from high pr article submission sites. All to my main page, is it important to increase pr on posts within my site? Feel like I am not doing something right here.

Only one if you get the right backlink. Get a good PR7 backlink and that single link alone could give you a PR5. It's about quality not quantity.

Yes I agree that it is not about quantity but quality, and also the manner in which you get your backlinks. If you spread them out and slowly get them, it will work a lot better than getting a ton of them at once.

AGREED, it is about quality and not quantity. I have seen this issue raised too many times, and the truth is one has to be smart place backlinks creatively. Use logic. If you realize that you are placing way to many links, but the sites are neither relevant nor have a high PR, then you are wasting your time.

It would depend on what keyword your trying to rank for. As your competitors may have only 5 back links or they might have 5,000,000 backlinks. It's something you need to research.

I agree with everyone above... but another thought, if you are simply trying to increase your search ranking, then PR isn't everything. Use Yahoo's site explorer page to check how many backlinks your competitors have in the search results, and try to get more.

You also have to keep in mind that even if you do everything right, it still does not mean you will land high in a search.

    It is not guaranteed.

There is no guarantee with backlinks.

PR is largely useless, in my opinion. Who cares what PR your site is? It can help to sound impressive if you want to sell it I guess, but the only PR you should be worried about is the PR of other sites if you want to link from them.

For me a link is a link, there is nothing like Good or Bad link. Site PR is not dependent only on number of backlinks but the overall popularity of your site. Gain as much as possible backlinks from some High PR sites i.e. above PR 5 sites, then you can get your sites PR increased as well.

    Wish you Good Luck

How do I find out the PR of a site prior to getting a backlink?

I agree... I have been backlinking my blog for months now and while I can find myself on the first 4 or 5 pages for many different keyword terms, many of them seem to only stay there for a short period of time.

Most webistes out there have a PR of 5, or lower, so one does not have to worry so much about trying to find high-ranking sites.

Many sites found on the first or second page of a search have low-ranking sites linking to them.

It's better to have high-ranking sites, of course, but it isn't THAT important.

Getting back links and increasing in the count of the same will wont help you to increase your page rank. Your need to work more your page internally keep the content up to date and have a quality content. This will really help you a lot to increase your portal page rank.

number really dont matter at all. I have seen sites which have only one back link but has a PR of 3. and others which have 20-30 back links but have a PR1 only.... numbers really dont matter at all. Its all the game of quality. The more you have a good quality backlinks the more page rank you will get.

    Thanks

The amount of backlinks is not fixed and this is why there is no specific answer for this. So the best way is to increase you quality backlinks from different kind of websites, like article websites, blog commenting, forum posting etc.

I think beside considering the quality and quantity of backlinks, another important factor is the timing. If you get 1001 links in a day, and 0 link for the rest of the year, that appears rather articifical. Best is to spread out and let link building activity appears natural.

50 backlinks is definitely not enough, well, unless they are all located on PR9 and PR10 websites of course, which I doubt, but its possible.. If you can, concentrate on getting quality backlinks, rather than getting a multitude of backlinks.

10 High Quality PR backlinks are much better than 100 ZERO quality PR backlinks.

    Hi 2point2

Here is some free advice - forget PR; the more people get hung up on PR the less time they are concentrating on the real issues of creating real quality content.
