I've been perusing through the forums and faq links, etc, trying my best to get a grasp of all this. I know in time I will. During my temporary loss of cabin pressure, perhaps someone could share some advice and recommendations? My starting weight is 40,499 for my first site added. I have a ton of pages indexed in google. So how do I best split this up in ads? I saw some posts talking about weight for ads between 1 and 5, but the drop list to select weight shows 1-15 next to my ads. Is 1 highest, or 15? Should I set my ads midway (say to 7)? Can I create 5 ads with this weight? 10 ads? More? What should I indicate as the weight for the ads, with this much (or little) overall weight? Supposing I wanted to create 10 ads, what should/could I set the weight (between 1 and 15) for each ad, and is 40k weight enough to handle it? Or is 40k so much weight, that I could place many more than 10 ads? I just want to make sure I get off to a good start. I have some other sites with many thousands of indexed pages I plan to add. Hoping for some advice on how to make the most of this opportunity. Thanks!
Hey, GT, you the same from DNforum? The weight goes from 1 (minimum) to 15 (maximum). You need to play around and find the best weight. For a tough keyword, you need to give it a lot, for a simple keyword, give it less. 40,000 total weight is nice and should be enough for 10 keywords, as long as you aren't targeting too difficult ones.
Say you were displaying two ads, and you ranked one ad a 3 and the other a 1. The ad which is ranked 3 will show in the network 3x more then the other ad, or if you want to talk percentages will show 75% of the time.
Hi Fryman, yes, same as DNForum. Surprised anyone would know my nick from there, as I'm not very active. Haven't been buying/selling domains much lately though. Was thinking about offering some of my collection here. Thanks for the info. So far, I've only entered two keywords, waiting approval. I set both to 5, since I have not fully grasped how this will work. I suppose once those two are approved, my weight will drop accordingly and I can better see how this will work. dcristo, thank you for your response. With two ads set to 5, would both appear the same then? I guess I'm thining of my weight in terms of cash. I have 40k to spend on ads. Once I figure out what an ad, at a certain weight can buy, I'll have a better understanding of what I can spend.
Yes, the more weight you give it, the more times your link shows up on another site=more times a search engine can see it=more backlinks You need to be very careful, if you give a keyword too much weight, your backlink count will increase dramaticaly and Google might punish you. That happened to me when my backlink count jumped from 20,000 to over 120,000 in one month
That would be correct. You'll actually find it does state the percentage of each ad being shown in the network right next to the rank no.
"I suppose once those two are approved, my weight will drop accordingly and I can better see how this will work." Weight isn't subtracted when your ads are approved. If you have a weight of 40,000 and you have 2 ads enabled, the 40,000 will be split between the two ads. and your weight will remain at 40,000.
I am stuck at 40,999 at this point, at least that has been the number for 2-3 weeks now. I am running 2 ads, which is what I have been running since I started basically. I want to increase my ads, but I dont want to jeapordize my great position for one keyword, nor do I want to hurt the growth in another keyword that has been a long time growing. How much of an affect would adding 1-2 ads have?
