Just out of curiosity. All you DP members who are working with fairly new sites. How long does it generally take to get a site to the point where it is getting 1000 visitors a day?
I believe this varies drastically. Some sites such as a genealogy surname site will never reach the point where it recieves 1000 visitors a day. Shannon
That completely depends on your site and how it is marketed. milliondollarhomepage is a good example of a new site that received a large amount of hits per day shortly after launch. But like I said depends on how you market your site. Is it going to be found by search, word of mouth, ppc, news, ect.
I guess my question had too many variables. Lets say the site is on a widely popular subject and the primary marketing strategy is going to be targeting the natural listings in the SEs.
If it is a new site then I would say over a year until you reach that amount. I doubt you can get that much traffic without Google and if it is widely popular subject that probably means you will be sandboxed for a long time on your search terms. But there are soooooo many factors involved in this it would be almost impossible to tell.
I usually create sites, throw a couple of links at 'em and let them sit. I usually give 'em 6 months to a year to start getting traffic (1,000 uniques/day) that way. It's a lot less stressful than wondering each day "when will I get out of the sandbox?" It also frees you up to keep working on other projects.
That is good advice, exam. I have been working feverishly to get my sites some traffic, but they are all new so I've only been getting traffic from MSN. Maybe I should concentrate on other projects for now and wait until I'm out of the sandbox as you suggest!
thats true - i have 2 sites both aimed at the same target audience, one is 10 months old and gets an average of 200 - 300 unique a day, the other is 4 months old and gets an average of 500 - 700 unique a day.
If it's a popular topic, that isn't too competitive, then you should be able to get plenty of traffic to it via natural search. You won't get your main course of SE traffic (GOOGLE) but you'll have appetizers to hold you over till you're out of the sandlot. I've developed sites and started getting 1000 uniques a day via MSN and Y! in about 1-2 months. Just depends on your methods.
Their are a lot of variables involved in how long it takes for a brand new site to reach a thousand visitors a day. I manually worked on my first website and it is now a year and a half old and gets 500 visitors a day. But I worked on that site manually. I spent hardly any money marketing it. I believe it is possible to get your site to a thousand visitors a day in six months. But it is going to cost you, big time. First off you alone will not be able to get enough links to generate a thousand visitors in six months. You will need a team, at least you and two other people, working at least 4 hours per day on your site. As soon as your site gets 1000 backlinks you should logically be getting a minimum of 1000 visitors. Tools like SEO Elite and Arelis get you results quickly. Hiring someone to get you backlinks will work fast to. Another possible trick is using viral marketing tactics via filesharing to get the word out about your site's product/service. It depens on how much time you have, and how much money you are willing to spend.
That sounds like a smart strategy. Thanks for all the insite. I was thinking along the same lines as you guys. It looks like Google holds the biggest factor for getting to the 1000 daily visitors mark. With the sandbox, that makes it up to a year or longer to get to that mark.
For the last four websites this required about 3-4 months... But my earlier sites required more than a year to get 1000/day.
It also depends on your long term strategy. Do you want to spend a lot of money now and get quick but short term results or you want to build a solid foundation that will get you a consist amount of visitors day in and day out?
