The domain business has been strong for about 10 years I would say and it seems to assure some good profitability in the next 5-10 years but My question is.... Will there be an end to this anytime soon and Im thinking beyond the business like the way the Internet is done should we still rely on www.name.com with TLDs for the next 100 years or whatever. Does anyone think this is coming to an end anytime in the near future. If anyone has any thoughts or articles on the matter I would really like to be introduced to them. Thanks for looking.
Surely it will come to an end ! But who knows what will happen after 100 years ! But nothing to worry it will kep on giving us revenue till n untill we exists !
Domaining will definitely not be popular at some point in the future. Folks will realize it's a ridiculous bubble. So don't ask yourself, "If?"; instead, ask "When?".
I predict something bigger than the internet will come along - or at least, be built on the internet (whatever - the WWW as we know it will be completely overhauled eventually - gut feeling).
Worrying about your future generations? , then fine.. if worrying about yourself then stop thinking and continue with your internet business, anything like that is not going to happen at least during your life cycle
LMAO!!! Lets not forget the internet as we know it is really only 10-12 years old! Think how much you have changed since you were that age. It is stupid to think the internet will still be the same in the next 20 years or even the next 10 years! If you look at technology such as Internet 2 and how many companies are extending fiber to homes you would realize the internet is bound to change and I think it will do it in the next 3-5 years.
I think it will last and gain more weight, because the internet and IT is conquering the world at high speeds
Everything comes to an end though. Do you think though if keeping domains like LLL.net .com .org or w.e for the next ten years you will be able to sell at the price thats is predicted as years go by right now? I think I just tlked in a circled but if you know what i mean please say what you think. Basically im asking if its smart to invest in domains now like 0uz.com for instance which you could grab for $110.00 or so, should you expect if you just hold it for ten more years you will be able to cash out?
It's always changing... from the old 28.8, 33.6, 56k, IDSN, DSL, Cable, etc.. Of course it's going to change in the next 3-5 years..
I don't see why not. I really don't see the domain names changing. Why would we change something that works and that we have come so used to. If domain names as we know them are wiped out A LOT of companies are going to crumble, that is not going to happen.
Yeh even through the 56k to DSL kind of changes TLDs still stayed the same so wouldnt you think it be a safe investment to keep this stuff even throughout how the internet access and what not is developed? I think the idea about crumpling businesses would be a main factor if you think about the companies like ebay amazon and monster or just websites with amense traffic.
The internet will constantly change and will continue to change for as long as it exists. I really like what they are doing by extending fiber into personal homes though, once its available by me I'll be signing up for sure.
As the internet continues to evolve,we should be exploring new ventures as fast as we could and just like the stock market, nothing is constant.
Maybe there will be huge updates like there always been, in my opinion internet will stick around for a long, long time.
ANYWAY - yes, the internet will be changed/altered/fixed. Perhaps it'll be divided up by country, much like television. Suuuree, you can watch Al Jazeera in the US, but not everyone knows how or even wants to. I think the same thing will apply for or to the internet.. You may be able to switch "realms" if you will - your ISP will offer a selection of DNS servers located in different areas of the world. This would allow you to hop realms, freeing up TLDs. For example.. USA (Realm US) - http-us://www.ebay.com UK (Realm UK) - http-uk://www.ebay.com The possibilities are endless, and I gurantee the powers that be are one step ahead of you. IPv6 has been in development since the 80's. People realised IPv4 addresses were going to run out because computers would become sooo popular (fact). Google themselves has recently aquired millions of IPv6 addresses - they've got something up their sleeve and they won't talk about it. They did mention they're NOT providing any type of broadband connections (providing internet connectivity, period I guess). Read what I think they're doing @ http://www.jruck.com/index.cfm?view=articles&id=12
Thanks for all of the feedback. Im still left generally confused because everyones answers contridict one another. ha.
The business is not going to die but will improve.Think of any invention . The invention has not died but yes it has improved with time .As far as domain name is concerned it is going to stay . The things which are going to change can be promotions , Links , PR etc.
For sure. My opinion is that Internet and Computers will always be. But maybe not in forms that we are aware of today.
I think the way companies expand and use the internet will be different and will be done in a bigger way . we will see alot more companies doing innovative projects to get our attention. The big dogs are snacthing up any little thing that looks like it will be usefull n the future. Over the years we have seen ebay ads on TV. yahoo joining rogers, msn and sympatico those are big things when see google aquire you tube and now we see goole and myspace. This are really big things and there getting alot of money with this. Advertising on the net will explode even more. When did billboard.com have ads on their website. Before a website was just for web presence its much more then that now so its definetly on a rise
