if you know the exact procedures
for a brand new domain to have the first page shown up in G
    about 1 week
to have more or all pages processed and showing up
if you are progressive SEO+webmaster - then a 2-3 weeks may show MOST pages

i just did one brand new domain for a friend - only the first page and another one - results are as above

and a few weeks earlier i fully redid an old site that never appeared in G nor much in Y or MSN
and 3 weeks later all is just perfectly moving up

    procedures ? ..

    top SEO
    validated code
announce new site / new pages in some really speedy secondary directories - one of the most successful is
    http://searchsight.com/Webmaster/index.htm
but you may use one of the multiple submit tools like the one i have and use for such speedy submissions to major SE
    Cyberspace Ashram FREE URL submission
most of the submissions work- some that show failure/erros shwon still work if you check manually for details.

if you have lots of pages / sites you may install the same script and get a list of SE on your own.

advantage of submitting to minor SE / directories are obvious
many of them may NENER bring customers/referrers
    but
many of them instantly list your site/page as submitted within hours
    and i saw specially
    http://www.searchsight.com
being indexed by Googel and Yahoo amost daily and my listings from searchsight to appear first in G and Y

hence you have valuable istant backlinks
thus you will be found by all major SE faster and several times

resulting in major SE bots to appear sooner and work faster on your site

one of the site i worked recently - the site of
Hotel and Restaurant Swiss Chalet has these past weeks of july 2005
    351 Slurp Yahoo slurp
    276 msnbot
    252 Googlebot
    visits from above bots
for a site with some 100 html pages quiet good and accordingly are the pages processed more and more and shwing up in results/SERPS

another procedure i use/used for above 2 domains
write in my own daily visited blog with RSS a brief report on the work done on THAT site as well as a brief review of services offered with links to directly relevant pages on that domain

and of course i submitted the major pages directly to MSN, Y and G and made sure all pages are repeatedly linked from within all possible pages with relevant text - like for example the pages:

    Fun in the Philippines

or a page with even more links to hotel service relevant additional pages may be

    Swiss Hotel and Gourmet Restaurant

mainly each division of the hotel has an intro page with brief description and links to the full details and always a links "home"

from the domain /index page of course there also are links to all important pages within the domain since this is the first page to be visited by all major bots and usually most frequently visited an deasiest to find links to NEW pages.

all above applies to ANY site / any type of business-website

this all combined and done at once - including your RSS feed that is submitted to all known RSS directories and blog directories ensures that new work / pages done occure within hours in the web - some may be even by SSI of your newsfeed on any other website out in the www world to make fining new sites and new pages easy for all major SE. bots will come within a day or two and keep coming more and more - days later results appear in all major SEs and since MSN NOW these past weeks kicks buts and does some REAL efforts - the challenge for other SE like Y and G is even greater to be faster and better - we all are the beneficiary of this "battle of the SE giants" :) the smiling beneficiaries !!

    :)

of course it may sound like lots of works ... it IS !!

ispent some 350+ hrs in 21 days IN that hotel working - as a guest to see, feel and experience all first hand - doing all the work ... the result is a fully booked-out hotel ( many guest turned down daily and a doubling of site traffic ).
hence it all is a once in a life time investment that may result in thousands or more additional annual $ dropping in constantly in a fully booked out family business

i think it depends on the content of your site....

Getting a small article about your site (with a URL pointing to your site) on a decent site with good PR will have your site in Google within 72 hours generally, if not faster.

This is my experience as well. Preferably a frequently indexed site with a decent PR - that'll get the ball rolling...

Put a link pointing to your *fresh* site on a page that is being crawled by all major SEs (eg. Google, Yahoo, Msn etc.) and it will be indexed by them almost in a couple of hours or days. No need to submit your site to those *search engine submission* tools etc!
