You can get one in a week - but you've gotta pay a bit extra... check out their website, it has further details on there...

costs a fortune to get it over the counter at passport office now. Take it to the post office and p-ay the extra 7 quid and they will check everything is correct and send it for you. Takes less than 2 weeks and the best thing about it is that they check it for you and tell you if theses any mistakes etc, better than getting letter back from passport office 6 weeks laster telling you you had filled something in wrong.

Can't you get it the same day if you go down? I'm sure one of the offices is in Liverpool.

you used to be able to just go down to your local office and get it sameday but EVERYONE started doing it so you need an appointment now and they charge another £80 on top for the service.
    post office is best bet

If it's your first passport you need to have a 30 minute interview with them too.
Something to do with preventing identity theft.

When I turned 16 I had to get my own. Took 3-6 weeks, can't remember. It would have been quicker but I had to send my photo twice as I apparently grinned too much on the first ;)

Yeah, you can usually get it done same day (or at the very least within a week) if you go to one of their offices.
    Good luck!
