As long as google can outsmart the frauds. Hopefully long enough for me to make at least one check off it.

Guys, don't worry. If AdSense will die (what I think is very unlikely), there will be other programs. It is certain that people who are building sites with no real value for the visitors will be dying off slowly. I think the future for online marketing is very bright. In my opinion quality sites with many visitors will be earning a lot more.

Completely agree with this. Digitalpoint said it well, "At least for our lifetime"
I do personally hope that webmasters will take the trouble to geniunely solve some real life problems for others and I'd like to see those sites being rewarded with fat adsense checks :)

Actually, many shops due go out of business due to theft.

See, what you fail to realize is comparing an economic industry (supermarkets) to one company (google) is inapt. If one supermarket losses customers, another supermarket will be available down the street. Remember the supermarket strikes & boycotts a few years ago? Adsense is currently in a field of its own. If Google screws up there is currently nothing to replace adsense. Yes, Yahoo is there but its still in Beta and definately not up to the scale of AdSense.

Ask yourself this: If Google decided to suddenly turn overly aggressive on click fraud (guilty until proven innocent policy) in response to their recent lawsuit, would adsense still be help up as a golden gem?

Honestly, if Adsense went, I'd still make nearly as much money now, as I never put all my eggs in Adsense. And as someone else said, there will always be someone to pick up the slack, such as the 100 of other Adsense copies already out NOW. So, no worries. Diversify and relax, is my motto.

It's funny, when I used to work at Best Buy, the policy was, even if someone stole something and you saw them take it, DON'T STOP THEM OR CONFRONT THEM. The idea was that let them steal it, because you don't want to make a scene and ruin everyone else's shopping experience. So the only way we did anything to stop stealing was to patrol the "hot zones" i.e. areas where opened packages (i.e. after the thieves unwrapped them and stuff them into their pants or whatever) were known to be left. I've always found this policy kind of idiotic, but there you go, big corporation at work.

Well, frankly, I'm hoping someone bigger, like Yahoo or MSN, will roll out their programs already so we can use them and they can take some power away form Adsense. I hate the idea of one corporation having so much control over so many people's livelihood. Right now Adsense is too all-powerful. They must be brought down a peg or two!

Google in general is too powerful.

I've seen 3 movies in the past month that say "I googled _______".

Hitch, Yours Mine & Ours, and I forgot the other.

I think adsense or some closely related business model will be around for a very long time, but I also feel it is only prudent to plan as if it is going to disappear tomorrow.

What I mean by this is diversify, sites with good traffic or in niche markets can always make money from that traffic so do not rely on just one source of income.

I agree with you Jack. I have been working on moving into other forms of monetizing all my sites. I have begun placing Adbrite Text based ads on my sites and giving additional more stable income. I think that there will be some changes coming down the road and the better prepared we are the more apt we are to not feel the changes as if we only were using Google. For some publishers the changes will most likely not be noticed, but allready smart pricing is taking its toll on many who were running many sites that were simply just adsense pages. I think Googles new model will favor heavily sites with real content value while punishing those with single page or even just a few pages only by lowering their payout to a point that is not sustainable.

i think it will allways be here , the only thing that will happen is that a lot of new people will join the program , earning will go down with time .

so it's not the question of when adsense will go down , its more " When users who lives from the earnings of adsense will go back to there jobs? " :)

We actually droped this program a few weeks ago. When we started with adsence our CPM was up to around 4-5 bucks per day and we were receiving a good 200+ clicks out per day. The $$$ was amazing! For the last 3-4 months our CPM was down under $1. We were lucky to bring home $3 bucks a day. Which was a waste considering we had 200+ people on a daily basis leaving our site for adsense. It lasted for about a year then we dumped them!
