How long until you saw money from blogs?

I've been running mine almost a month now, and got under a dollar so far. I don't expect to make more than that my first month, but was wondering when I should start seeing money from good content.

Any shared previous experiences are greatly appreciated.

Depends on the amount of users/traffic you receive and the way you're monetizing that traffic.
It also depends on the subject of your posts. While a technology blog can have more fans than a health blog, a health blog is much of a narrow and better paid niche than technology, for example.

My business site / blog was doing mid $xx after about 2 months, and stayed there for quite some time. I didn't hit the low $xxx range until about 5 - 6 months in (in a per month rate). Now it's 11 months old, fully converted to blog format, and doing low $xxxx monthly. Just stick with it. Keep posting. Keep networking and marketing. And keep finding new ways to monetize things.

very handy information, jhmattern. I will definitely review your blogs and learn from its successes.

Hopefully in a year I too can accomplish what you have.

How many articles do you have in total? How many did you post, on average, per week?

I let it sit idle for several months without update actually, and the PR just kept increasing, because people liked the content there enough to link to it well naturally. Now I post much more (at least 4-5 posts per week; sometimes that many posts in a day). That's really been the key to earning though.... make sure the content is quality, and worry about that over quantity. Also know your niche.... would you likely make more from adsense revenue (if we're talking about a guitar-related site, then no), or would it do better by getting an increased pagerank and selling private link space? Then look for other ways to monetize it..... can you promote specific affiliate products? can you write your own e-book and sell it through the site? can you offer some kind of paid post option that would make sense in the niche? etc.

Hmm, well the guitar niche is giving me around 5 cent clicks, and a few cents here and there for impressions. I think it could be vastly profitable if I got my traffic up- I get around 60 cents for a click and the normal low-traffic impressions :D

But I will also look into link selling. I also have some separate ventures I will be looking into :)

$.05 per click is nothing. I have that same problem with my indie music sites, which have barely earned anything over time. For the record though, the market seems to respond better to image ads, so if you're not using them already, give them a try. On the other hand I have business sites / marketing sites / etc. that can easily earn $.50 - 2.00 / click. At $.05 / click, you'd very likely earn significantly more if you get the PR up and sell private monthly text links... I'm even doing that on my bigger adsense earners... on top of making more, frankly, it's safer. If you lose one advertiser, it's not that hard to replace them. If you lose adsense, you're screwed until you get on another system and have it set up.

I f***** dont understand can't i rep and praise a user if i fin something useful.. i did exactly that to matty.. it seemed useful to me.. i dont know if its an automated system or a mod who gives infraction but who so ever is doing it.. Are you dumb? I am not a spammer or a retard.. i have been a regular visitor at dp.... don't go for my low post count.. common if people start getting infractions for such things... its going to be difficult to stay here... :(

They have probably considered your post was not contributing in any way to the evolution of this thread. Repped users can see that you repped them in their UserCP. Anyway, an infraction is mostly nothing to worry about. Make sure you don't stack them up. If you have anything to complain about, please use the Suggestions and Feedback forum. However, keep in mind that posting about an infraction would often lead to another infraction.

We should stop this here. Thanks.

It's better to blog for fun than for money. Then the money will probably come naturally.
