I have a blog that I write which is a labor of love. There's no telling how long or if ever I will hit a point where I can make money on the site. I currently have about 50 subscribers. Does anyone know what the critical number of subscribers is until the site takes off? Input is greatly appreciated.
As long as they are genuine subscribers, I've hear people refer to 1,000 as a big milestone. If you have 1,000 subscribers, I think you can say your site has "taken off" and you should have some pretty good optimization opportunities. It takes a lot of work, though. Best of luck.
1,000 genuine subscribers sound about right. At that point you don't even have to worry as much about Google giving you traffic because your fans will spread the word - much stickier traffic.
Yeah, good point about the word-of-mouth marketing. Also, in my previous post, there is a typo. I meant to say that after 1,000 subscribers you should have good "monetization" opportunities. If you've reached that point then you probably are already pretty well optimized!
You can make money off a site with no subscribers...It's about your traffic volume and how you are monetizing your site. How are you currently trying to make money off your site? Think about who your visitors are and maximise your money making potential with some careful analysis and targeting.
