How long do you guys think it'll be before FaceBook dies, like MySpace and all the other social networks out there? 2 years? 3 years? 4? 5? Never?

Do you think it will ever die?

    Post your opinions!

MySpace was huge in its time too... Don't forget about that. Then FaceBook came along, and killed MySpace.

The question to me is, who's going to kill FaceBook?

Why should Facebook ever die? The "old" Generation will be happy to have it.

I'm not saying it should... I'm asking when will it?

Think of all the social networks that have come and gone, they were huge, and they vanished, because the next guy had something better.

Facebook took the concept of Myspace and made it private, it took the concept of 'myschoolfriends' and made it free, and it took the idea of twitter and intergrated it...

However, the recent security balls up almost killed it (or at least started its demise) but by listening to its customers (or at least pretending to listen) - I think it gave itself a real chance of becoming a second Google and living forever like the monster it has become...

But like the security debate showed, one silly series of mistakes can start a backlash....

MySpace sucked from day 1, because it was always top-heavy with auto-loading Madonna songs, dancing dog and juggling clown icons, etc. No one over 14 used it.

Facebook cracked the code. Tweens to teens to desperate housewives and retirees all use Facebook.

What part of "Facebook overtook Google in daily pageviews in March" don't you understand?

FB ads are in the larval stage. Wait until they get a clue about real tools like AdWords Editor, so marketers can really get to work.

I give it around 5 years before it starts to fall off the top. Someone WILL come up with something new and hotter. Something that loads faster. Something that never has any bugs. Something that goes viral and people HAVE to be a part of.

It's hard to imagine it ever dieing unless the business model fails, who would want to migrate to another site and set up all their friend networks all over again?

In my opinion, Facebook is more analagous to AOL than to MySpace or Friendster, which were both short-lived fads. FB is here to stay for the time being, but like several others have said, it will lose its luster and be replaced by something newer and shinier eventually. I never imagined in 1998 that AOL would be irrelevant a decade later, but it happened. Even Google shouldn't be too confident that it will be a permanent fixture in the ever-changing world known as cyberspace.

you never know, some company will launch some good product and its gone..

In India, I remember people were used to orkut, now after facebook, many of my friends including me came to FB.

Someone just need a good idea and definitely FB is still lacking many things .

I think facebook can be improved but it's a great concept and people have really taken to it. So probably replaced by something in the future but not die?

Facebook will not die; it will only fade away. Soon people will realize they are just wasting their time. Facebook has allowed too many applications without quality control and this will continually piss of people, and soon members would leave facebook, and what happened to Myspace will also happen to Facebook.
