When you send a link exchange request out to a website, how long do you give them to respond to your email and/or add your site before you remove their link from your site? Just wondering.
i never put a link up first, i wait and chat to them via email for a couple of times and once my site is linked to i add theirs.
The usual timeframe is 48 hours. If they don't respond within that time it normally is because the person is not so interested in doing a linkexchange.
I guess 48hours seems like a good amount of time. I put their link up on my site in good faith before I initiate the exchange. That is how I have always done it and it seems to work for me. Thanks for the feedback.
If you'd like a better chance at obtaining a reciprocated link, I'd suggest you allow a bit more time. Allowing someone the courtesy of 10 days is not unreasonable, and a bit more realistic. If I got a request for a link exchange that needed to be addressed within 48 hours, I'd probably can it. Responding to link exchange requests is not the first priority on many webmasters daily to do list. If you're requesting a reciprocated exchange, here's a tip; throw up a link to the site and give it a few clicks. Showing up in the referrer stats can be a bonus. I've thrown up a few links a given them a few clicks and ended up with a reciprocated link without having to send an email. I tend to just delete link requests that start out as an "invitiation" - suggesting that I post your link and then contact you for a reciprocated link? Who's asking who for what here?
I agree, that is why I add their link first since I am the one asking for the exchange. You are right, I think 10 days may be more appropriate.
I give it a month. Webmasters don't necessarily have to notify they've added you. Set up google alerts for your URL, site name and anchor text, keep track of all your submissions (like in an Excel Spreadsheet) and use backlink checkers at the end of the month. you might also want to check manually on a regular basis on the site you submitted to because links can *disappear*
I feel a month is far more appropriate than the 48hrs mentioned earlier. Great advice to use the Google alerts Roxyyo, I'll try that for sure in the future.
No more than a week. By then if someone can't get their act together they are not worth dealing with.
48hrs...a week.....10 days....a month Many different opinions here. I appreciate all the feedback. It has given me lots to think about regarding my link exchange procedure.
I'm with the 48 hrs opinion. If someone was really interested, he/she can reply within that amount of time. Otherwise they'll be able to survive without my link. And I'll do it without theirs.
