How long to wait to resubmit

How long should I wait to resubmit a site to DMOZ? Every 6 months?

How do you know if your site is still in the queue to get reviewed?

    Thanks for any replies

I've heard from several sources (none of which were actually DMOZ) that submit once, wait 6 month & try again. Though, officially I think the word is "submit once & forget about it".

I'd opt for the first one though... but in that 6 month, re-read the submission guidelines and add more content to your page. As likely one of three things happened.

    1) The server burped and they never got the submission
    2) The category you submitted too has no editor
    3) Your site did not meet the guidelines for acceptance.

In most cases it's two or three, and if it's three it'll never get accepted unless those guidelines are met.

It certainly would be nice if they actually emailed you once the site was approved or disapproved and the reason why.

I agree, and it really should not be all that hard to implement...I mean, they already have abuse report tracking. How hard would it be to apply that technology to submissions?

It would also help them out. If people knew what was wrong with their site they would fix it before just submitting again.

There is never a need to resubmit.

    1. If your site is still waiting to be reviewed, then resubmitting just overwrites the old submission with the new date and you move further back if the editor sort the pool by date --> ie don't resubmit
    2. If your site is already listed, then resubmitting will be a waste --> ie don't resubmit
    3. If your site was rejected, then resubmiting will result in it just being deleted again and a long history of record of deletes will be attached to the URL record (not a good thing). Almost all sites rejected will generally never be listable --> ie don't resubmit (wastes your and the editors time).

    Most are not fixable.

If you are wondering about the sites in your signature, it took me all of 5 secs to see why they probably would not be listable. They are affiliate sites with not enough unique content.

Where are you finding this info on DMOZ? Do you have a URL?

I realize the site in my sig are affiliate related but so is 80% of the sites listed in my categories and the other 20% are covered with google ads.

Ok here is the scoop. As it stands now, if it has been more than 6 months, I would go ahead and resubmit at this point. Only do this one time. Do not keep resubmitting and don't spam with several sites because they will get tagged.

Note that this is only after you have made sure you have read the guidelines at least 2 times and your site meets these guidelines and has plenty of UNIQUE conetent without affiliate links. Write a short non marketing compliant discription and that will help. I won't go into all the reasons why. That is just one editors opinion. :)

Description doesn't matter much, getting editor to check the category in which your website was submitted is the trick - get a raccoon! :D

I submitted in 2003, the site is better then any in the category. Not included, i dont care the pr will be 8 shortly anyway.

Reason, an editors site is in that category. Yet ive submitted utter junk for a laugh and been included. DMOZ should be totally scrapped.

Whats the point? I'll never submit another site to it as long as i live. It can stay corrupt/biased, and i can get better backlinks in 1 day rather then waiting for years to be denied in to the ODP.

Inclusion doesnt even bring traffic, i dont understand why people waste their time submitting.

I think it's hard to get into the ODP because it likes all the hype...I mean, here you are not wasting time to submit, but taking the time to complain. In the time it took you to write that post you could have submitted a site & forgotten about it.

I can see a result from this post.. rather then just shoving information in to a black hole.
