Ok so I have been link building for about a month now, not seeing too much results via google but the links are there on yahoo site explorer.

How long did you have to wait to get some good results / serp with google?

It depends on how good the links are. Lower-quality links make it harder to see results - you can normally see the benefits of high quality links in days or weeks.

Also depends on the age of the site, if you're building links for a brand new site, it could take even more than three months. For any site a year or older, they should show up in your SERPs in about 6 to 12 weeks.

some of mine have come up within a week, some takes more. as others said i think it depends on the quality of the website you are getting linked from.

One month is not enough, but afete a month u may get some BL at least on google and also get some improvement on your SERP. if not urs links pages are not indexed, try to make daily bases so sure will get BL on G and slowly increase the SERP position

You need google webmaster tools to see how many links google has indexed for your site, using the google search site only shows a very limited amount of links. Yahoo gives you all links, no follow included

Google aren't counting back link from teh same webpage.

I never look at it, I just keep on building them because Iknow that I would bee just dissapointed the moment I saw how many back links does my sites have.

Well actually you are wrong. They are counting backlinks from multiple pages from the same website.

The same thing with all the discussion about no follow links.
Google will still count them, it won't give them so much value but they will still count. Besides the other Search Engines don't care about no follow.

How do you determine if a link is low or high quality?

the best indicator is google's page rank option. Download and install the google toolbar for that.

As for links, I think it takes around a month or two for links from lower ranked sites to show up, and around a week for links from top sites to show. Reason is simple: google indexes lower ranked sites every few months, while the top sites are indexed every 3 days or so.

And only if used as an indication only!!!
DONT use it as a basis for how well the site will do or if it really is that high.
Google holds that information for itself :(

Don't get too concerened with what's showing up. Just keep building quality back-links. It's a time consuming job, but you got to do what you got to do!

Also, I believe that government or educational or "official" sites have more authority to them. A tourist site of ours got PR1 with 1 link from a tourist authority site (relevant site, official body) and 2 very small non-related links.
