3 weeks back i have moved a forum from a subdomain to another domain and i put 301 redirection for all forum pages. But still most of the pages are displaying with old domain on Google and also i have lost the keyword rankings and positions. Is this a usual behavior or a strange one? Will i get back my positions on google?

It depends on your website, the amount of incoming links, whether you got a sitemap.xml file, etc

Eventually all will be good though

Did you test the 301 pages to ensure they're redirecting properly?
Did you log into your Google Webmaster Tools Account to see if there are any errors the bots are seeing when going through those pages?

It could take around 2-6 weeks before Google acknowledge the change and redirect you made. Your website ranking will fluctuate during the period but only temporarily.

I think you have to check all the redirection link. It is possible problem with your redirection. after checking all the redirection code you have to weight at lest 3 week. Google take some time to read it.

Loss of ranking is somewhat expected in this process, just help out your new domain by gathering new strong backlinks..

I think your sites rank gone, you have to do hard work again to get back the rank position. But you have always option to do this by making backlinks. Hope you will get back the position in near.

Did you generate a sitemap.xml file and then link Webmaster Tools to it?

Webmaster Tools is your friend :) You'll want to manage the issues with redirection/404s/etc. through it. I'm not sure how fast changes take effect - I usually try to give it a month before re-submitting changes.
