hyphens are fine..nintendo has site which is on top of google for few good words and has two hyphens.. also I think for newbies it's not advisable to choose a competitive word to start with beucase your site will remain in sandbox and even if not than u will not get any traffic through search engines.
I don't think those _ aren't allowed in domain names, but they are allowed in the path of a sites page. For example You can't have games_online.com But you can have games-online.com/games_with_action.html Also $1 can be made from most sites, if not all per day, but they still need to be advertises quite a bit. When doing my advertising I prefer to advertise them all the same time rather than do one at the time. This way it makes it easier.
And how can you deal with multiple advertising at the same time? Are your niche approximately the same?
Sorry! I should say that I prefer to do quite a bit of my advertising the same time. When I say this I mean that if I add my sites to web directories I prefer to add them all in one go and then move onto the next web directory instead of adding one and then going to the next directory and adding it to that and once I finish I then do the next site onto the same directories as what I had done the first site on. In forums, I would have a sig pointing to 2 - 4 of my sites instead of just one of them. Most of my advertising is done seperately per site, but when ever I see an option of doing it quicker then I will go with that option. Time is money.
I make a $1 a day and that is just fine for me also, I written this on my site to help people make more but its good for tips on just to make something, well that is what I have been told from peoples thoughts lol How to Make More Money with Google AdSense
There are many factors that will determine how much a site makes, but IMO the two most important are: 1. What advertisers are paying 2. How much competition you have All other factors being equal, you'd probably be best off chosing a topic in the "middle" for both of these factors, i.e. "medium" advertiser prices and "medium competition." Just a quick question on this point. Is this really the case? Just asking, as I just assumed that google did give a big weighting to the keywords imbedded in your domain name? Thanks for your responses!
You are right here. I belive tomzx is wrong as a domain name and it's words play a very big role in your sites success as long as the domain name is easy to remember and is not to big. A domain should be about 1 - 4 words with your keywords or topic in them! For example, if you was in the health and fitness industry then you may consider a domain like: tophealthproducts.com or qualityhealth.com or healthandfitness.com or top-health-products.com or quality-health.com or health-and-fitness.com If you are wondering why you should choose these type of domains that I have choosen the answers are here: 1. They are nice and short so that you customers and visitors can remember them 2. They have your sites topic in the domain name so it also makes it easier for your customers and visitors to remember them. 3. If someone is looking for a site about health and your site is in-between alot of other general sites, then once they have a quick glance offer your domain they will instantly see the health word and think straight away that it has something to do with health and then click on it. 4. No matter if you using "-" or just join the keywords, I think you most probably benefit in the major search engines, but I am not 100% sure if one is better than the other. 5. When alot of people look at your site and may want to link to it I find that alot of people just link to it by using your domain name in the anchor text of the link. 6. Some people also do it another way as well, which I have found. Take tophealthproducts.com for example. I have found that some people who may want to link to it may either use tophealthproducts.com as the anchor text or Top Health Products as it. I have found many times when people that I have not asked to link to may site use: Affiliate Seeking as the anchor text when the actual url is affiliateseeking.com So as you can see the type of domain you choose for your websites topic is very important. For the people that choose to have a domain like: top - health - and - fitness - products - cheaper - sold - with - quality - pharmacy - products.com is just breaking the first few of my points about customers and visitors remembering a domain so they are more likely to not succeed all that well and these long type of domains actually ruin sites including Google! This is because have you noticed that I have written the above domain with spaces. Well the proper domain is all joined and if I had done that here then it would have most probably extended the width of the page and put things out of place. I have seen large urls used in Google and they just muddle up the results page.
I believe that all the major search engines use domain names as a part of their indexing algorithms - and this belief is supported both by the theories of SEO experts and my own personal experience, as well. Sam
I dont want to improve it. If you are not always improving what you have people will get bored of your site, even a company that makes a $1000 a day, could be broke tommorrow. I dont want to make more then a dollar. If you don't want to make more than a dollar you are better off not wastng your time. I dont want to have to spend the 5+ hours a day subbmiting to directories You could spend 30 minutes a day and submit to several directories My point is you have to have the attitude to make money, or you won't even make $1 a day.
Alot of static sites make more then $1 -- as long as the infomation isnt the type that can expire(become irrelevant), it shouldnt need updating. I'm not saying your points arent vaild -- my main site is updated/submited to directories dailey -- i just wanted to see if it was possible to setup a turnkey site, that could be left and make the owner money. Checkout AfterHim.com's wart site: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=65627&highlight=warts Making $50 a month with no updates -- its just good info that dosnt need updating and always has people looking.
Sites that get left and not updated or promoted anymore will eventually most likely die. This is because the search rankings of the site will keep decreasing as your competitors will still be trying to improve their search rankings while yours will be left behind.
Concratulations!!! The amount of money and how quick you make the money all depends on how much knowledge and experience you have of the affiliate marketing industry and also over advertising and marketing tasks.
Within the first few weeks on one of my sites, I was averaging about $3 / day from Adsense. After the second month, it dropped to almost nothing though. I wish I knew why, so I could fix it. My stats have gone up, I have more content, and I don't recall doing anything that could have negatively affected click-throughs. Jenn
I could be the traffic that you are receiving. You maybe receiving more traffic, but if it is alot more untargeted then you are more likely to receive less clickthrus to what you first had as your traffic may have been alot more targeted.
Doesnt keyword-keyword.com look a little like spam or something? Just new myself and just wondering.. Very interesting post though! Im in the same boat myself trying to make some $$$ All the best!
Put it this way, When I build a site I like to build it for my visitors and not the search engines. So having a url for a health site like: 1healthseeking.com would be much better than having a url like heatlh-fitness-products-at-cheap-discounted-prices.com With the first url more people are likely to remember it and with the second hardly no one may remember it which means you will then have to totally rely on people coming to your site from search engines and clicking on links from other sites.
Having hyphens makes no difference really in being seen as spam. A long address like john says wouldnt be done, but for example: www.healthseeking.com and www.health-seeking.com <-- the later, you would have to tell your mates, "its health hyphen seeking . com", so no hyphens is better for a site you want people to spread by word of mouth. My domain is a pain in the ass for telling people, because, they type it just as you say it "its all free" (as any normal person would ;-) ) for this $ a day thing im doing, i choose keyword-keyword.com as i want my site to be found by searchengines, i dont really think people would be telling my site to their mates. its just to try and improve my search position. but i'll see.
Quality content + some web promotion and you should be on your way to easily more than 1$ per day. Just make sure you update often so people come back.
