how long to get ranked on 1st page in google for keyword: office supplies

i am in the process of having an ecommerce site built to sell office related items. Is it rediculous to think that its possible to get ranked on the 1st page for keyword: office supplies, in a short period of time(months not years).

I would say years if ever. You are competing against big name companies like office max and staples. They pretty much have that niche figured out.

Yeah, good luck on that one. That is an extremely competitive keyword.

You will need to target long tail keywords and build out. Get a good keyword tool.

What would be some good keywords to target for this vertical?

office supplies shouldnt be too hard.

if you have a good budget, 1 month to 1 and half month, at least first 3 pages, 1st page would take a bit longer, but doable

    This will take time.

In the USA office supplies are the top selling items. 3 of the top 10 retail outlets are office supply chains. Needles to say its going to be very difficult.

YOu can try taking a look at the long tail keywords. Try and target the more specific product names which will be less competitive and will likely have a beter conversion rate than someone looking for something generic.

    Good Luck :)

"office supplies" is too competitive for a new site -- and too competitive for most old sites also.
New sites should go after long tail keywords first.

Office supplies is a stronger keyword than those in my market. I rank around #295 in my most competitive keyword. I only started working on that keyword though in the last month or so.

It seems, from my observations, that the sites that do well for certain keywords are those that use it most consistently on many pages over time. In other words, it seems like google filters out keyword spamming (stuffing) by looking at the overall theme of the site. This would support the concept of aged domain names. You gain credability and rank as you stay in the market longer and longer (in terms of YEARS not months or days).

With all due respect, there are no guarantees in this game and although the aim would be 6 months or less, no one could say for sure it would happen, be careful of guarantees!

By the way 5 months 29 days for $3999!

Generally, domains have to gain "trust" in Google before Google will rank them for competitive keywords.

For example, analyze the top 20 results in Google and check the dates that the domains were registered.

If you see any young domains in the top 20 of Google for competitive keywords, check their backlinks because they are probably buying text links (expensive).

There is no way to guarantee success. It takes time to gain trust with google. I struggle to get into the top 1-2 pages for a top keyword of mine, and I am adding new content and marketing every day. If it were as easy as plunking down some $$, everyone would do it. It appears your site has to have an overall theme of the keywords to rank well. Google is getting very good at analysis. I can tell by watching the progress of my site and seeing how small changes affect rank and what text is used and how.

Not always. My site for Search Engine Optimization is one year old, however has only been pointing to that search term for about 5 months. Yet for Google (UK based Worldwide search) it is 15th. This is because it is highly optimizied with no bought in text links apart from some social posting links. These were because I could not be bothered to sign up to all though accounts, though I have now.

Great work... Did the domain have content on it for 12 months?

I don't follow Google.co.uk much, but I wonder if the difference in rankings between Google.com and Google.co.uk is because they spell it "optimisation" over there.

Try to get as many if not more back links as your competition and..
Put your link with the right anchor text on a a handfull of pr5 - pr7 releated sites add that with some on page seo and see how good you do in 6 months bet anyhting youll be near the top..
