How long to be re-ranked?

    Hi all,

    I have recently put my website online and have noticed that if I do a UK search for relevent keywords then my site comes up on page 47 (God knows where it would be for a non local search).

    Assuming I manage to get some backlinks etc, I was wondering how long it will take for it to be ranked again?

    Thanks.

    Due to having very, very little content, and this:

    html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <title>pet portraits-Dog and Cat paintings in soft pastels</title>
    <meta name="Keywords" content="pet portraits, pet portrait, dog portraits, dog portrait, portrait artist, pet portrait artist, dog artist, dog painter" />

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

    Code (markup):
    I personally can't see your site ever ranking. Get more content, and fix those meta tags. For example, rewrite it like this:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <head>
    <title>Pet Portraits - Dog and Cat Paintings in Soft Pastels</title>
    <meta name="Keywords" content="pet portraits, pet portrait, dog portraits, dog portrait, portrait artist, pet portrait artist, dog artist, dog painter" />
    <meta name="Description" content="Enter a small description of your site here" />

    Code (markup):
    Good luck.

    It can take anywhere from a few weeks to months to get back to where one used to be.
    It will be a lot of hard work for sure!

    Thanks for the replies.

    I think I've fixed the meta tags now, although I had read that they are not relevent to search engines any more. Is that true?

    Is it a lack of text content or could the extra content be anything such as images?

    Thanks.

    I dont think Google use meta tags for serps, but a good meta description will increase the clickthrough rate of people who do see you in the listings.

    Your extra content should be mainly text which is spiderable, rather than images.

    Start building some links back to your site with your keywords in the link text.

    Try to add more metas on your page and provide good content. A good way of promoting a site can rank your keyword in a short time.

    Make strategy for on-page and off-page optimization for improvement in rankings.

    Add fresh content with use of targeted key phrases, update meta tags, easy navigation for robot as well as visitors.

    Use all tactics for off-page promotion of website like - submit to new directories, article submission, submit to social bookmarking sites, make signature in forums and many more.

    Yup. This is the most important things of all when we talk about SEO. You should concentrate more optimizing Off Page rather On Page.
