I was fortunate to pick up two expired domains that each have a few hundred incoming links to them for the keywords my primary domain is trying to rank for. I purchased them, and have now 301 redirected them to my primary domain. About how long will it take for Google to recognize these incoming links to my primary domain and impact the SERPs?
I'm not sure you understand. I bought two domains. Each of these domains has 250+ links coming to it. So by redirecting these links to my domain, I get 500+ extra links. That will make a difference. Just wondering when the impact will show up.
@digitalpoint13, to your original question: it depends. If your 301s are cleverly done and the anchor text appears on the destination page, my wild guess is: about 4 weeks. Beware of "These terms only appear in links pointing to this page" issues. Patrick Altoft describes an experiment in a quite recent post. (I may not yet include links, you could google for "Google stops passing anchor text through certain 301 redirects")
mmm interesting. everything i have been reading was that the links are passed on, but then will fade over time. Jesus...minefield...who knows for sure.
Thanks for your reply. I went and read the article--interesting. The anchor texts in the incoming links are relevant (and very similar to the linkbuilding I was already doing) to my domain, so hopefully Google won't knock them.
I'd build the 2 sites up and then link to your primary site with the 2 sites. 301 redirect is know to pass some link juice but I'm not sure if it's what you are looking. 500 links may also not make a difference considering the quality of links and whether they are from 1 site or multiple sites. For instance, you have 500 posts here in DP, then you'd have 500 backlinks to your site in your signature, but they are all crappy backlinks in the same form over and over again on the same site: forums.digitalpoint.com, SE won't count them much in calculating PR or SERP. To answer your question, I'd say might be a month or 2, depending on the quality of your links. I used to get 1 backlink from a deep page of a PR7 site in my niche, my traffic instantly tripled the next day.
