Personally I don't count the words in the article. I write what I need to , to make the point and interest the reader. If that turns out to be 800 words, then so be it. If it's only 400 or 500 or 632 words, then that's what i submit.

There is no magic word count formula of what will make your articles successful. The success is in the writing style, information, niche, targeted market and the marketing of that article.

Word count (within reason) is the last thing I think about.

i think it depends on the niche/product you are trying to sell. if the product is very in-depth, you may want to use more articles to make the reader believe that you know what you are talking about.

Okay I now have 10 articles on my subject and all are 300-350 words on the same subject. I'm in the process of setting up my landing page and then I will post them to EZ for reviews. I have submitted articles on there before so I don't have to wait for that long initial review process. I also have someone working on 20 more articles for me so I hope to have 30 articles posted by the middle of next week depending on review times.

I will update everyone in a few days and see if I have any traffic yet or even better any sales. Another bonus is that I have passed the 5 credit cards on CB so I don't have to wait for that anymore either.

I feel that rather than the length of the article, it is the matter within that decides how effective it is.Of course, anything more than 500 words is likely to divert attention and test the patience of readers.

Hence anything between 350 - 500 should be the length. It is also useful to have more articles of this size on the same topic to keep the interest alive.

That's one way of looking at it, certainly. And a very widely-believed one.

Another way is to say that 800 - 1,000 words is likely to result in your fewer clicking readers being much better pre-qualified and more ready to buy when they get to the sales page, leading to a bigger income for the marketing work done. But most people dismiss that idea out of hand because "they already know they're right", so they never actually test it thoroughly and compare the two different methods for themselves on a like-for-like basis. ;)

Between 350 - 450 words is good. I did an experiment with Ezine Articles. My articles longer than 450 words received fewer clicks in the resource box. My shorter articles generated more clicks in the resource box. So now if one of my articles goes over 450 words, I either make edits or make two articles. You should do your own test and track your results.

I have submitted 5 articles for review and I hope they will pass. Each one is about 300 words. I have 5 more that I will submit but I wasn't sure if I should wait for the others to be approved first. Do they care how many you have pending approval or will it lower your chances for approval?

In the future they will hate us for all those MASS bulk of articles. Trash dumps will be competed in space for bulk servers to host articles. The possible coming cure for spam and articles galore ..Enter the Google Certification Digital-Dot. Authority sites selected by Google from a rigorous reviewing process will be given a certificate Digital-Dot. They must then edit their certificate and stake their reputation on it .. by adding in any other websites they want to give a vote to. No more mas slink spam on web pages, no more need for spam and links etc. You will compete to have the best authority site and follow all the high quality content rules to tr yto be awarded one of the rare and few Google Digital -Dots! .. you will not accept payment from sites in exchange for links because Google will review your certificate file and will review the sites you have chosen..and if they feel they fall far below standards which you should already know from having a certified digital dot site.. then they will know you're taking pay off and revoke your Google Digital Dot.

Links will only appear on web pages when they are legitimate referrals or mentions on topic. and each link will have a tiny number at the end of it..between 1 through 5. The rating that the owner of the site will stake their reputation on again ..when giving that link they put on their site a rank of 1 being lowest, and five the highest mark. From then on not only will Google have to try to keep the Internet an accurate information source, becaus enow , so will site owners as they are called up to the plate to make their sites relevant and accurate..and to base their site and reputation on it. Failure to do so will cause a ranking of your conduct ..to the point of falling off the scale. If your site reputation falls below 100,000 marks.. your site falls into the forever void of banished sites. there wont be any coming back out of sandpits etc. you will simply have to start a whole new site, from scratch .. and begin the journey again. It will eliminate spam, link brokers, mass useless articles, and stop attempts to try to scam against the Google bots.

The leaner, meaner, more accurate Internet - get in line for the Google Certificate Digital-Dots.
Stake your reputation on which links you use on your site, and on which sites you include in your seperate Certificate file. Sell a link and be banned from the Internet universe.. put up crappy content, and never receive more than your starter: 1 reputation point

Try to scam the Google bots.. and your site ends up in the virtually infinite Google Black Hole from which there is no return. May the Swhartz be with you.

I never write anything less than 700 words. I think it really depends on what your goals are. A lot of the topics I write about are complex, a 250 - 400 word article would never work. I found that with short articles you have to be very careful to not make it appear you are just trying to get the reader to the end of it. Also you should be careful about over submitting articles, you don't want to overwhelm the publishers with your writing. High quality articles regardless of their length will continue to pay dividends long after quickly written articles have lost all traction.

One of the major article publishers (at the moment I cannot remember which one) said that the articles that get published the most are in the 700 - 800 word range.

This is the soundest advice in this thread.

Your primary focus, believe it or not, should be on your article title.

If you don't have a captivating title, the body means nothing. It might as well be written in gibberish if the consumers never actually take the time to read it.

Your headline must draw them in.

I'd recommend 300 - 500 words. This will do for the mass majority of article sites. Remember the whole purpose of an article is to give just enough information to stir the appetite of your reader - Not to burn them out. Your article should be informative, yet a bit incomplete. Make your readers want more! Give 'em just enough material that they will be prone to *Click* on your links for more juicy information!!
