How long should a title be

I thought its better to make very short titles (6 - 8 words) in order to make every word powerful. I see that people are talking about very long titles with many "long tail" keywords.
Can you tell me what is better?

Maximum limit of a title is 65 character which must include your main keywords.

You cud go with around 100 characters in your title. Some Up & Down still reasonable. I use sometime around 100to 115 characters in my title tag. And till now i didn't find any issue. You cud check it in google webmaster tools............................

    hi guys,
Thanks for giving your opinion. It is good if the title is made of 65 characters as most SEs show that much title in their SERPs. So, as my point of view, if you embed your title with more than 65 characters then users can't see 65 characters within title. So, why do you burn your brain??

    You are absolutely right...............

But that does not mean extra characters are worthless. In 65 characters try to place competative keywords while after that put less competative keywords to support them. If you perform gud work surely you wud get ranking for those keywords which are not shown by SE's but when they are related to earlier ones...............

Title should be written that can describe content of your website.Use 65 characters to describe the page.

If title is not able to define your web page, then it is not worth it.

If you think of search results as the grocery isle, then you really only need to put as many characters as it will fit on the box (or your site). Even if you have more to say, people won't see it on the isle and honestly, when was the last time you read a page's title tag during your regular internet browsing unless you're optimizing or bookmarking a page?

    More is not always better.

Check out wordtracker to determine what keywords for each pages are best to target. then include the keywords in the title, at the beginning is better, but also keep in mind that people who see your site in the SE's index see the title first... so make sure it is appealing and that people will want to click on it to find out what's inside!

    good luck!
