PHP is undoubtedly the most used programming language used in making web applications. So I guess yes it is good for making sites quickly.

But probably the best way for you to know is to learn it and then decide if its good for you or not.

PHP is one of my favorites. But, ruby on rails might be the next big thing if they solve all of it's issues.

    Take a look at Qcodo.com
It's a php framework that generates code for you. Watch their screen cast and you can see how to get basic functional websites up in 30 minutes

PHP is only the most flexible web programming language and it has a large community support too. As PHP is a still growing lauguage, your applications are also highly scalable.

I will say that PHP is my favorite language to build things in but how quickly you can develop depends less on the language(these days) and more on how comfortable the person is with the language. Most major languages have very nice frameworks to get things started quickly so its really just up to how comfortable you are with the language. PHP is a very clean and easy to read language but so is Ruby and Python and.... You get the point. Just play with them and see which seems easiest for you because all of those languages have RAD frameworks that work very well and can get a site up and running fast. If you're looking for a language that is the most available on web hosts I would go with PHP because it just works and languages like Ruby and Python require special setups most web hosts dont have setup.

PHP is great and you could make site quickly.

But for proper coding you should invest in learning and stick with some framework or develop one your self.

PHP is an Open Source server side scripting language which has become incredibly popular within the web devlopment community. PHP's early growth can be largely attributed to its open-source roots as a free language that is highly compatible with other (also hugely popular) Open Source technologies including MySQL, Apache and Linux.

    Thanks :)

    I agree, it's the best,
if you need a quick website with some common functionalities, go for CMS like joomla or wordpress,
if you want to code from scratch, go for pure php5, or learn to use a framework like Qcodo or codeigniter, it will make your development much more quick and easy

    cheers

I would agree that PHP is currently greatest open source programming language for web development. Python is also pretty good, but PHP is the king.

But, if you wanna do something really robust, secure and exclusive, then .NET or Java is a must. Of course, be aware that stuff costs but they're by far best solution for anything dealing with money or sensitive stuff.

Of course, if you wanna do casual sites and get them done quickly, then try out concrete5 CMS based on PHP - http://www.concrete5.com

This is very good. It will be better if you can use the Open source like wordpress, Joomla etc.
