I have a month old page with my sharewares. I registered it in amount directories with shareware. But when I ask google for backlinks (link:mysite) I see nothing. I am not very experienced in SE. What is the problem? Is it normal delay? A lot of directories don't use direct links, but links with their domain. It is possible to find that links also on google? Thanx
Google has always and will always suck at this. You'll have to use the competition like Yahoo! to get a better feel for the amount of backlinks.
According to matt cutts "We only export new backlinks, PageRank, or directory data every three months or so though." I hope this one aswer your question.
Enter your "link:" query into MSN or Yahoo instead, or use the excellent iWebTools Backlinks Checker. Cryo.
Try entering "www.mydomain.com" into Google search, including the quotes, this will give results for the total number of times google finds your link. It will include duplicates, so actual unique backlinks are less, but at least gives you an idea of what google really sees.
First - your site needs to be indexed. Second - all the other sites you receive BLs from, should be crawled after your link is there. Highly popular websites, more often they get crawled, more often SEs see your link and more quickly your link starts showing at different data centers. All this can take some time, so I think one month is good time frame for you to see your BLs. And as other posts suggest, use MSN/Y!/Alta Vista to check BLs. link: www.mydomain.com None on G, 1878 on MSN
OK. I found about 100 links on my page via Yahoo. That means when google recognize that links my Page Rank will be higher? Now is my PR 0.
Don't be too hung up on PR. Just get more IBLs for the keywords you think will bring you traffic. You cannot shoot for PR number as an SEO, but you can shoot for good high quality content and good high quality IBLs. More good quality IBL = higher SERP.
