    hi friends,
I am changing my hosting from aSmallOrange to BlueHost. I changed my DNS servers at Godaddy.com 12 hours back. Still the site is refering my old hosting. How long it takes to chnage from one hosting to another after changing DNS servers? Or Any other issues causing these delays??

    waiting for reply.......

    Thank you in Advance.......

    Hello,

It all depends on your ISP, the old server and new server! But between 24-48 hours is the normal rate ;)

Depends on the registrar and the DNS server. For some live domain registrars (e.g. moniker), it's almost instant.

For godaddy, it would take 6 - 24 hours.

Most people say 24+ hours but the longest it has ever taken for me was 6 hours, and that was using a Swedish domain registrar

When I use namecheap i set the nameservers on my domain I WAIT 30 minutes before i visit the site. Then after 30 minutes i visit and the domain is active. But it would take 24 hours for the whole world to see it :).

It takes initially 15 minutes to get changed

BUT it will take up to 72 hours for proper propagation/resolving.
During then it is more likely your domain will have nameservers going forth between the old one and the new one or maybe lost in between.

In other words, during that 72 hours, you will see your page at old host, at new host or no connection.

Try flushing your DNS cache, if you're using windows go

Start --> run --> type 'cmd' --> type

    'ipconfig /flushdns'

It depends on the DNS servers that you're using for your internet connection.

Hard see any registrar take 72hr to flush the DNS, 72hrs lay there only in case the worst case.

If some registrar really take 24+ hrs to flush the DNS, I'd say it's not good.

A good rule of thumb... Set your TTL on your domain to 300 (seconds) or 5 minutes about a week or two before the move.. Then when you make the change, it will occur almost instantly.

Actually were the domain is registered has not much to say! People who live in US and the server is located in US the change is almost instant! But for me in Norway it can take as much as 24 hours even with Namecheap!

It really depends on your ISP, were the server is located and were you are located! Were the domain is registered has not much to say!

But if you want real quick updates no matter were you are or anyone else are then use A for the fastest and quickest change.
