Hello, I wonder, how long it might take to generate a Full Backup for a 17 GB Compressed tar.gz file? I started it about 14 Hours ago, but still no sign of it. Automatic backup is disabled from WHM though.
To put 17GB of data into a tar.gz should be less than an hour, but it depends on your server, how busy it is, what type of disks and so on. 14hrs seems a little excessive I'd be looking to see if it's failed.
Is it your own server? - You can go via SSH and run the command for full backup within Cpanel. - While you are doing so, expect more then 2 hours to have the backup created for an average server. 14 hours is a bit too much, although there is a possibility of it taking that long depending on different factors.
Hi, If you backing up it from your server to some other server located some where else, other than the facts mentioned by our friends here you'll need to conceder about the bandwidth thresholds too. You can expect a good speed if you have a high upload capacity and the receiving end have a high download capacity. If the both ends are in your hands, better to create a VPN to do the backup job. HTH.
Well, The backup never came up. I think I made some mistakes while generating. Thanks guys, I have tried SSH to backup and its now showing up.
yes u should always do such big task directly in ssh using commands it gets over pretty fast and when extract disable verbose
the slower it is when the number of files are more. set a cron tab with a shell script that would incrementaly backup your files into the tarball. If I am right the option is -R
