How Long is Too Long?

I had met with a person online that was interested in buying one of my eBooks that was pretty well completed but still needed a week or two of final touches and proofreading. I had already spent about two months writing it just as a hobby on the side, but it is a field I have vast knowledge in.

So, almost four weeks ago we finalized the deal and he said he should have the cash around the 24th/25th of last month. When that came, he didn't have it, but he was still able to make a payment for about a 25% of the total price. I requested he did so, and so that day he went to a WU branch to send the money, and they were closed.

Next day...he didn't have proper ID on hand, next day he was too busy, next day he had no way of getting there, few days later he tried sending it online, and he says there were errors, he checked his bank and it went through, but WU has it as nothing...okay now he talked to the bank the next day and they suspended his account, next day he goes down with his photo ID and they say they need Paypal print outs and stuff showing where he got his money, and they can't open the account for 24 business hours after that - which would lead to this Monday coming, he had a little bit of cash on hand, about half of what he was to send, and I asked him to send that and he said he can't get in to town...and he is too busy.

In short, he was supposed to have the full payment two weeks ago, and he promised to make the small payment two weeks ago, but every day is another excuse.

What exactly should I really do here?

Is he buying the master resell rights ?

Sounds like too much trouble to go through if he's just buying a customer copy like anyone else.

    He's giving you the run-around.
nobody is that unlucky unless they're trying to be.

You'ld just be wasting your time talking with him again.

Threaten to pull out of the deal, and you should get a better response. He will either say 'OK, thanks anyway', or he will get his skates on and pay you. To be honest, if the book is as good as you make it out the be, then you'll have no problems finding a new buyer. Give him one last chance to pay, and if he doesn't pay up, then pull out of the deal.

    kiteguy...

When I started getting "aggressive", probably because my rent was due and actually I'm staying at a friends now because he's been screwing me around...he told me "You know I don't have to buy this"

What a joke...and it's for full rights, total price is in the four figure range.

Well, at the moment, he isn't buying it, and if you need to pay the rent desperately then you have no choice but to leave him and find a new buyer. Like I say, if it's a good book, then you'll definately find a buyer, and what you really don't need is to be waiting for someone who will probably not buy the book messing you around.

    Good luck :)

I already got evicted, and it was a motel I was staying at so there's no fiddling around or anything. So right now I am staying at my friends, I found an apartment, but no cash to get it so I opened a super big discount thread for my service on a bulk order, slavery rates to say the least.

It's not that easy to find a buyer for your eBook with full rights real quickly though. He seems legit and all because he has had quite a bit of transactions under his belt, but he even told me I was on the bottom of his list to make payments to as he is already late paying other people for their work.

Well, why don't you try and find a new buyer regardless? If he pays up, take it off the market, but if you find a buyer before he pays then it doesn't really matter. What matters is you getting paid for the effort you put into the book :)

Nothing you can really do. One of the risks of sending someone something before taking payment.

Always take an advance payment on large projects.

    Find a new buyer.

from my personal experience I can tell you that he's not serious in buying your book. I too encountered such situations earlier when I started out in business online but after two incidents I now never spend time on such "potential" buyers. Better launch that book in your target market.

Why don't just go to the buyer place and take the cash from the buyer?

He's clearly giving you a runaround. Try to sell you eBook online, you don't have to waste every second with his lame excuses. Or try to give him deadline in a professional way. anyway good luck with the eBook!
