I 've built a site for two weeks. And some blogs, websites, bbs have links to my site. But when executing "Link:mysite.com" in both gg and yahoo or I go to website tool to have a look. The number of backlinks for my site is ZERO.

So I want to know how long does a backlink be considered as?

It takes time due to indexing reasons.

Try with Yahoo Search Explorer, it works better. Me too, with the "site:" command, Google doesn't find my website.

go to both google and yahoo add URL pages and submit those sites which have links to you as well as the pages of your site. it takes the bots a few days/weeks to index many new sites and links etc.....though popular sites get indexed continuosly
check on google by using www. domainname. com (no spaces there) and there you go....

yep that's right, frankly if a website doesn't have a high PR and is continuously indexed, you really don't need to have a backlink from it

You can never know when google will show your links, he might show it after a week and might never show. There are sites that rank very well for competitive keywords and google show only 1 link while they have 100's.
There are no rules in this case!

Normally it takes a while for Google to actually pick up on the recently aquired backlinks. I would keep building the backlinks and check for backlinks with Google every few weeks.

The time till it remain in existence it will be considered as backlink. There is no limitation for that.

It has been over a month for me and I have still not seen any of the blog links that I have done or some article syndication links. I keep checking the serps and Google WMT but still no love.

I think Yahoo site explorer shows every link it has found (which can even be a bit annoying sometimes when you have hundreds of links from one domain :p).

On the other hand googling link:site.com has never shown me even near all the links that it must have been following at some point. Anyone know why Google doesn't show them?
