How Long Has Content Locking Been Around?

    I recently discovered something called CONTENT LOCKING which allows you to make money simply by giving away free downloads or content. Basically, when somebody tries to access the content you require them to fill out a CPA offer. After they do that you get paid up to a few dollars and they get their free stuff. Is this something that's new? Or is it a super affiliate secret that's been around for a long time? The oldest articles I've found about content locking are only 1 or 2 years old.
