Hi At the begining of December I had a new site of mine submitted to 500 search engines and directories. I had lots of confirmatory emails saying that my site was being reviewed for inclusion, and a couple of straight refusals. When I checked the number of back links yesterday it shows as having 34 does anyone know from experience how long it takes to update or is it likely that the site was rejected by all the rest. views on this would be helpful
It can take quite a while some directories take 3-6 months to review new submissions. Link building is a long term process, keep doing what your doing and review your progress on a monthly basis. I would say it could take three months.
How are you checking? If you use the Google link: operator it's essentially useless; I have a site with about 1200 backlinks that shows up as less than 30 in Google. Note that Google likely still uses these links for PR/other calculations, it just doesn't display them to you when using their search engine. This means there's no easy way to tell when Google indexes, acknowledges, and acts on a backlink unless you want to compare logs or something. If you're using Yahoo Site Explorer I generally find anywhere from 3 days at the earliest to 3 weeks at the latest, but I haven't tracked it in detail, that's just remember when something happened to show up. EDIT-or you could mean something else entirely, in which case take Sandbox's advice above.
All these free directories certainly take ages. I'm in the same boat. Also google says I have two links, but a piece of software called Back Link Analyser shows over 200, probably more as I set it to return 200 of them. Isn't link building fun.
A tricky question , of course. My experience says it takes 2-4 weeks. I find Yahoo's site explorer the better way than MSN to find links. Google is dumb here.
free directories will take long as they received lots of sites to include...and when you check through Google, Yahoo and MSN they'll not show you all your backlinks...just continue building links...you need patience on this...
