Ok, so i made it big on Digg.com:eek:.
Can anyone else that's been 'Dugg' tell me how long the whole Digg-effect lasts? Traffic, links, etc ?
and, are they any other side-effects (good or bad ) ?

Depending on how your site is set up to accept the Digg effect, the majority of the time it has good effects. An article I wrote a long time ago regarding a gaming gadget the traffic lasted a couple weeks. Just make sure your site has the proper advertisements i.e.) banners, ppc on it so you can take full advantage over the Digg effect.

Well I never made the front page of Digg, but one of my Digg articles is ranking nicely in the Google SERPs, so I am always getting some traffic from that.

the "digg effect" is when your server lags? I'm not sure what you mean but if your server's lagging and ppl can't see your page, probably it'll get burried.

no, by "digg effect" i meant the extra traffic and links.. my server (on a shared host) held up pretty good! over 4,000 hits per hour and it's still going strong!

Digg effect is not always a good thing. I haven't been to Digg's homepage, but I was slashdoted once. My VPS crawled, I couldn't login to my server, all the main processes like mysql, apache were killed.

So, I'd say be prepared for it. Moreover, its not just Digg, once you are on digg's homepage, you can see your site linked on several other social bookmarking sites such as redit, delicious...etc and there can be ripples of traffic.

It'll last for about a couple of days. Then you'll get trickles in the months following.

I was vicariously dugg when www.wolf5k.com was dugg a couple weeks ago. They link to me and I was also linked to from the comments for the Digg article.

It lasted a couple days and didn't do much for improving ad revenue for the section of the site they were hitting. Lots and lots of impressions but only a handful of clicks.

If you want to be successful you have to create a site that keeps people coming. You can't count on a regular stream of one hit wonders.

I agree with the posters....you might make a lot more money than average when you are dugg, but that won't last much....However, if you get into people's delicious accounts and bookmarked etc. you can increase the level of traffic to your site in a flash.

IMO it will help you only if you have a really good article/howto or a great service. The top 100 lists might get you to digg's homepage but wouldn't help you much to generate overall site traffic.

Digg is useful for backlinks not for ad revenue.

It could last for over a month. Never got "DUGG", but I heard stories. Your site gets picked up by other sites and the traffic keeps on comming.

I once made it big, it must have got on the front page as i had thousands of visits from there in one day then that was it.

I did suddenly get a tremendous increase in links though
