How long does it take?

    Hi to all,
I have a new website I have been working on which is indeed ranking for the original keyword I sent out to get. Now I am wondering, how difficult and how long time wise does it take to go after a keyword that is not in my URL. Besides link building what can I do to rank for the keyword or is it just a matter of time for the links to generate age? I have always had the best success in the past with ranking when I have the keyword in the domain however this new keyword I want to get I offer the service for but it is no way related to the original keyword or in my URL. Any suggestions, or experiences others can share would be helpful to give me a rough time frame or if I am spinning my wheels, thanks in advance for any advice.

    :)

The time frame I would say is between 1-2 months. Start building backlinks for your targeted anchor phrase and add good quality content with that keyword phrase and you will start ranking for that keyword phrase combination.

Traffic-Bug, I was wondering do I need to point the new keyword phrase backlinks to the new anchor phrase content or should it go to the regular homepage? I do not know if it makes a difference or not? Any thoughts?

Proper on page optimization and finding the right keywords is the best way to do to rank your keyword effectively.

It is better to point your backlinks with keyword phrase anchored links. Try not to use only one keyword phrase to get those backlinks. Using multiple set of keywords from low to high level competition will help you in long run.
