How Long Does it Take to Move to a Dedicated Server?

Hey guys, I've just recently (as in yesterday) decided to upgrade one of my sites to a dedicated server. This started at about 1:00 p.m. yesterday, but as far as I can tell, it's still going on now nearly 13 hours later. Here's the thing: my primary pages, with static html and what not, are up, including a number of blogs on this domain name that are rather small. But I have two bigger folders, one for a forum and a bigger blog with about 900 entries. The forum doesn't work at all, and the blog works, but the entries don't show up. I'm assuming it's because they're still moving my site from a shared server over to the dedicated server, but the fact that the guy doing the moving hasn't responded to my email in 3 hours is bothersome to me (because he, or someone there, usually answers within 5-10 minutes; they are good like that).

So, the question is, how long does it take to move about 2.5GB of files over from a shared server to a dedicated server? Should it be taking well over 13 hours? I should stress that the main root folder seems to be all there, including all filmes related to it. It's just seems like they're having difficulty, or are taking a long time to completely transfer the databases for my big blog and forum over.

    Any thoughts?

P.S. Mod: If this is the wrong forum, please move it, and apologies.

I don't think it should take this long, BUT it is a weekend, so give it until Monday....and in the future don't move servers on a weekend ;).

How long should it normally take, though? Does moving large blog/forum databases take time?

Well you need to take into consideration the time required to setup a dedicated server which could be anywhere between 24-48 business hrs. After that once the transfer process is started, it could be completed within 6-12 hrs without problems. I have had our admin transfer a whole HDD with around 60 GB data in less then 6 hrs.

it is automated through the WHM panel if they use cpanel , if thats the case it shouldnt take more than 2 hours - less than that because theyu are on a vlan inhouse network.

I get the feeling they've fubarred my transfer. Now they're giving me the runaround via the emails. "Someone" is always "going to get back" to me but never does. And nearly 24 hours later, still nothing on the blog or forums. I mean, no movement at all.

What makes this worst is that I expect something like this from an inferior hosting company like Godaddy, but not these guys. I have supreme confidence in these guys. At least, I used to... :(

No need, Mr Crow, thanks. Got everything fixed earlier today. Two of my databases got messed up in the transfer, but it's all good now. Lost about a day's worth of revenue, but I'll suck it up, as I like this host and will stay with them. Thanks for the offer!

They're called http://nexcess.net/. A small host, based out of somewhere up north (milwaukee or michigan or thereabouts). They don't really advertise a lot (you've probably never even heard of them) but of all the host I have been with, they are probably the most "human". The customer serve is just outstanding. But be warn, they are a little pricey. A minimum package will run you $9.99/month, and their largest shared host, without moving to dedicated, is in the $70s range. But overall, I am willing to pay the extra price for sound of mind.
