    1. How long does it take you to get search engine traffic, to a brand new site?
    2. How does the process of indexing work?
    3. Do you receive traffic right on the first day you are indexed?
I need some assurance to know that organic traffic is the best way to go.

    Thanks everyone.

Indexing can take anywhere from 24hrs (with Google) to weeks. Once you are indexed you might start seeing traffic within a week of being indexed, the higher you get ranked the more traffic you'll get.

If I have an affiliate site I'll throw PPC traffic at it until I start getting really good organic traffic to the site. If profits are good via PPC I'll keep my campaigns running alongside the organic traffic.

In simple words by which google indexes is to follow a link , to a page. Once google bot is there ,it will index that page.
This process can take merely hours or a couple of days as cormac already mentioned in above post.
That page will then appear in the Google index.
It's likely that the page will rank well in the index – and higher than it normally should – because Google traditionally likes new content. As the page indexed is new content, then it gets a sudden and high listing.

And then is almost immediately dropped from the index.
Many webmasters panic here and ask what they did wrong, and ask why they were penalised.
They have not been penalised – it is merely a quirk of how Google indexes.

What has actually happened is that the Googlebot has made a record of the URLs on that page indexed, and self-submitted them for further indexing in a process known as "deep crawling".

After about 4-6 weeks the site is then heavily indexed, and the results come up within days after this on the Google search index, where they will stay.

if you are working on a difficult keyword like hosting, it may take one year to start good traffic from search engines

I am agree with trichnosis , if you will be able to get links on high traffic sites , You can get traffic immediately , You can also try PPC , But You need to wait for 1 week atleast to see some traffic from search engines

Does the domain name itself and the extension help with SEO? I have several names that get decent type-in traffic (esp. dot coms) because they are on-point high overture domain names. If I move them from parking, will the name help or are my VoitureNeuve.net (new cars) and Cybercafé.com just as good as xyz545 dot net or dot com?
