How long does it take to be accepted as a DMOZ Editor.

Discussion in 'ODP / DMOZ' started by WebTalkVB, Sep 15, 2007.

So far after my application I have recieved to e-mails, one asking to confirm my e-mail address (which I have done) and another saying my application has been recieved and that I will get a reply very soon.

Now I know DMOZ is known for slow and corrupt ways, so how long did this take in your expierience (if you have already been accepted). And, is there any way to speed up or track my application, or is it a site and wait type scenario?

    Please let me know. Thanks.

Depends on category you applied to, your spelling and grammar, descriptions quality etc. here you can find few tips.

Two weeks & you can ask for a status check from RZ... then generally within two weeks from there.

OK it's not like I NEED to be an editor, I would just like to be one, so even if I get my application declined I am not exactly going to hate myself for it.

But 2 weeks is fine with me if I do get accepted. I would just like to help the ODP in any way, shape or form. It is a shame that such a big directory like DMOZ has been neglected and left for dead. I don't understand why such a big Internet entity would let itself go like this, surely the owners/founders have seen the reviews.

Anyway, not to turn this discussion into another, thanks for the replies guys.

It is the same way when editors (even senior editors like editall/catmv+'s) resign and then ask for reinstatement. They sometimes wait months and months, and never even receive the decency of a reply. It seems like the concern is more for the egos of those in pseudo-power than for the good of the directory.

Come-on quey! Hurry with the reply!!

It was founded on spam, and it's unclear if it's current ownership cares all that much about it.

Though if you do get accepted, I can offer this bit of advice. Keep silent, edit in your little corner, and be a good boy...or the Motsa will get you!

Shouldn't I let people know I am an editor (if I get approved)?

If you hang out and agree with the ex-editors, you will be history. If you side with the editors that post here, you may be ok. Just don't volunteer to help the meta(s) to keep tabs on what is happening in here. FYI, ask annie.

I think I'll just keep it pretty quiet and do my job, and if I do announce that I am an editor I think I'll just do my job like I should. Geez I didn't think DMOZ was this corrupt :p.

You are not a regular in here (the DMOZ forum on DP) just keep it that way... though, heh, you're a DP member. This means you are already a no good troll with an axe to grind. Sorry.

    Best of luck ;)

I would not call it corrupt (like others in here like to do - in all of my years at the ODP, I never once witnessed nor uncovered any corruption). I just think that some (but not all) of the senior editors (metas, admins) are a bit stuck on themselves (trying to be a politically correct as possible). When they felt that they have been disrespected, they tend to let their emotions direct their actions - instead of doing what is the best for the directory and the editors involved in it.

The project has lost some really hard working, highly productive, and dedicated editors because of this attitude.

So basically what you are saying is that some of the editors are arrogant, and get a little power-crazed?

It depends how you are as a person, it can be quite profitable. You can become a "SEO" expert like neb and anon and the only expertise that you need is to know what button you should push to list your customers sites. :D

Jeez Julian, this was shaping up to an interesting conversation, many of the posters had interesting and valid points. Often the way that the ODP treats new applicants and reinstatements leaves much to be desired. But then you come along....

No Julian I am not an Seo, nor am I in a business of the type where I have anything to do with websites, or IT in general.. You on the other hand can be easily shown to have a long list of sites including teeny porn, discount pharmacies etc. That you assume that others crawled from the same rock as you is to be expected. Hells bells Julian Minstrel is right you really are such a useful guy.

It seems quite difficult to have Dmoz to have our sites listed.I submitted quite a long time ago.
