    Hi
Can anyone tell me how long it takes for Google to respond/consider the reconsideration requests for the website on the webmasters tool.

It might take about 4 - 7 days before Google reply on such reconsideration requests like that.

As I have also faced such problem. I do one thing, create my xml sitemap again and after submitting it in the Google webmaster tool, make verify that again and send the request to the Google again for reconsideration. My site was reconsidered by the Google after some days.

As normally it take some some only or sometime may be weeks but not more than that. You have to put again the reply to Google for that if much time has been passed.

It took me 4 tries to figure out what was wrong. Ever reply took 3 weeks. Get a G WMT account asap for that site.

How they de-rank your site, unless it's totally deindexed is to devalue your links. For instance my one site had about 3 million total links, but in Google WMT it only listed a few thousand, way off. So I knew I was penalized. If you have a general idea of how many links you have, you can see if you are penalized.

After my 4th reconsideration, I went from about 4000 links in WMT to about a million. That's a good benchmark, I hear.

pjman, did you write something specific to them in this reconsideration request, or just push the button 'reconsider please'?

Yes, I wrote something very specific each time. I pointed out anything that could have penalized me. I included why I did it and how I fixed it it. Otherwise, don't bother. They really will only penalize you for very valid reasons 99% of the time.

It completely depends on your site crawl rate. By default search engine will decided site crawl rate. As per my knowledge the crawl rate will be assigned on site content and how frequently the content updates.
