This really varies between different websites. Because of the way blogs are structured they seem to index faster than than basic websites.

One of my sites indexed in just a few days, another took about 4 weeks to start showing up. Have you added your site to Google's crawl yet? This would be a key way to speed up the process -> http://google.co.uk/addurl ;)

It really depends, you could manually add your url and also create a webmaster account and add your website's site maps for it to be more likely to be crawled upon.

Try adding a youtube video on your website. Google bot will be all over your site. Also build backlinks to your site from websites that always have google at its doors. Use stumbleupon. Google often index a new post/page on my blog within a few hours after I thumbs up my web page.

Increase the amount of backlinks to your site.It will help in indexing your site in search engines.Use forum posting, blog commenting, social bookmarking to increase backlinks. It may not bring you a whole a lot of traffic but that will be useful in indexing in search engines.
Also indexing in search engines takes some time.It is not as fast as we would like to have...

Depending on how you optimize your site, it will take a couple of days or a week..

Make sure you have webmaster central account and submit a sitemap for fast indexing... It will only take 2 to three days to index your site.

I agree with sanjeewamad... go and get more blacklinks by directory submissions, forum and blog postings, social bookmarkings etc., just ensure that the back links are 'do-follow'.

Google is so fast nowadays. Yahoo is not far behind. I have seen sites I've setup be indexed in Google within 30 minutes- Yahoo within 1-2 days.

Once a blog I own is listed in Google (such as http://www.jwrmedia.com) and I make a new post, I've seen that post indexed in Google in about 10 minutes.

    Its usually very fast.

You've probably already done it, but be sure you've submitted your blogs to the search engines like Google Add URl, Yahoo, DMOZ.

When you do it for free, it can take 6-8 weeks because you're in queue with a bunch of other people who are also doing it for free.

My recommendation is to submit your site to DIGG because it will index within in 3 or 4 days, and it's free.

you still need to keep sending traffic to your blog via other methods: writing an article about one of your blog posts, telling your friends on twitter, myspace, facebook, yuwie.

You can try creating You Tube video and talking about your blog. Put a link to your blog on your channel so that people can click on it. Submit your blog to blog catalog and join some groups. There are people in some of those groups who like reading blogs and will comment on it.

The best way to get your site indexed is give link from the other blog that has indexed by SE..

For me, it takes in a day with blog site. What I simply do is to advertise them in other sites and the search engines will crawl the new site and index it. But for ranking, it will take a while.

    Digg it.

I've found new posts on a site that's only a few days appear in the SERPs within a few hours after a digg.
