How Long Do Penalties Last?

If I search for the name of my site it doesn't even show up on the first page any more... I'm assuming there is some kind of penalty? Also, using the webmaster tools, all my external inbound links to sub-pages have gone away. Only the home page shows external inbound links.

This isn't a big deal really, as it's not like I was getting any traffic via searching for the site name. It would be nice if eventually things would return back to normal though...

I think it's normal because this happened to me while my website is indexed but even if you search for the site name it wont shows up, Then after a few days it's back there and even ranking for the keywords.

If you mean the directory listed in your signature.... directories are old hat - gone - game over - you're going to need to find another avenue for making money online thant buying some cheap PHP directory script and setting up a site. Google devalues directories now, you need content, not crap.

LOL, yes, I mean the directory in my signature. Since it is 100% personally built from scratch, no scripts involved, thanks for calling it crap...

Anyway, what I "need" is a way to add/provide value to bloggers. Some of my users really like the concept of finding other local bloggers this way... but I'm not a big marketing expert so it's not growing as fast as I'd like. So, the thinking cap is on, and I'll try to come up with some more compelling features.

Any suggestions? Any thoughts on the question I had originally asked?
