How long do I wait? What should I do?

    Hi guy's

I'm working on my site to get better listings especially for Google and Yahoo.
I optimized my site pretty well so far (I think) and I have top 3 listings for MSN and the rest in the top 10 for most of my keywords but I only list at 76 and 73 for Google and Yahoo for my main keyword (b amboo fly rods) and some who are less relevant in the top 20. I now want to make small changes and see what happens with my listings and try to improve them. How long should I wait to make the next change?
Do I wait untill the cached page shows the changes or is that just a file that is not looked at when determining a position?

Another question: I read about internal linking and using keywords but I now only get better results as soon as I remove keywords from the text. I jumped from position 245 to 76 in google as soon as I removed an internal link with that keyword. I now only have two keyword phrases left on my page.

I outnumbered most of my competition with inbound links.

If someone could take the time I would appreciate it when you would take a look at my site and maybe give me some tips.

    keone,

    Nice site!

Couple of things to be wary of. All three SEs appear to be in the middle of updates. G's new BigDaddy architecture combined with the Jagger algo change is rolling in and out of DCs on a daily basis so you see different results on an hour by hour basis. It makes it almost impossible to optimize because you never know if you are looking at new or old SERPs.

Use Caryl McDar's "Datacenter Watch Tool" at www.mcdar.net to look at the SERPs two or three times and day and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Your site appears to have quite a few pages in the supplemental index : http://www.google.com/search?q=site...ient=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

Which can impact your ability to push your internal PageRank around AND those pages will probably not rank for competitive keywords.

You also have some code problems. This page: http://www.keone.com/flaming_heat_treating_and_toning.html is showing:
Which looks like a page with nothing but links.

Your content looks well written and relevant.

If it was me I would:

    1. Clean up all of the code errors
    2. Use the G/Y/MSN "site:" command and analyze every page that shows up in the index. Make sure there is sufficient content on each page and that its relevant to the <title>.
    3. continue to get backlinks and also get backlinks that point to interior pages.
    4. Use Caryl's Datacenter Watch Tool on a daily basis and when things settle down analyze the top 5 sites for your keywords and THEN start making modifications to improve your rankings.

    Good luck!

    Jay,

Thank you for taking the time to write your message to me and to look at my site. It is much appreciated.

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean here:

Do you mean that it is a problem that I use the same title for all my pages?

what is the advantage of pushing internal pagerank arround? With the new update most of my pages seem to have gotten the same pagerank. About a week ago only my frontpage had rank 3. I somewhere found a site that predicts future pageranks and that told me I was getting 4 with the next update. I thought I was doing well...

The file not found page you were referring to I know about. I have a few others that have the same "problem" I started to change my site since last december and those pages still are not removed from some search engines. Is there a way to remove them myself?

the page with links is my 404 page. I thought it was a good idea to include a sitemap on that page. --Not a good idea?--

    Thank you,

    Danny

Think of each page in your site as a single stand alone website. Each one of those pages point to other pages - home, more product info, contact, etc. etc.

Those pages pass PageRank just like an external page would so if you have 10k pages in your site that all contain a link to home then that's 10k pages passing PageRank therefore "home" must be an important page.

When pages are moved to the supplemental index they no longer have PageRank OR what they have is reduced therefore they either pass none or a smaller amount.

And yes, EVERY page in your site needs unique title tags - makes sure to include the pages primary and secondary keywords.

    Hope this helps.

edit: I didn't look closely at the page that generated the error but if it's a 404 error page that has a sitemap then yes that's ok. You may want to dress it up and tell the user that "we're very sorry but we could not find the page you requested, below are some other fanstatic bambo rods or other stuff you can find at our site"

    Thank you Jay.

    Learning more every day.
I'll start working on the page titles and the 404 page first and wait for the search engines untill they stopped updating.

Fun to see the different datacenters by the way
