How long do backlinks take to yield results?

    Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I submitted articles to a couple of directories a couple of weeks ago with links back to my site, but was wondering how long it usually takes for your site to start benefiting from these backlinks. In your experience, how long does it take to show up on tools like SEO-for-firefox?

I want to get my site higher up in Google.

    Thank you.

Well since article directories are big sites it can take a looong while :)

I advise you to either ping your articles direct address or do a few backlinks to that article. Probably the best way to go is to do both :)

Thanks for the info guys. As im using Ezinearticles and Goarticles, these are probably two of the biggest directories right! Oh well.

In peoples opinion, is it quicker or more effective to send links back from leaving comments on popular, well-ranked blogs etc?

Actually, come to think of it, this has been discussed here already. I'll go hunting for those threads again.

It takes patience. It would be not easy but just keep doing everything optimizing your site. Give it 3 months or so and you will really see the results.

Patience is a virtue in SEO. If you build a lot of high quality links then 6 months from now, you'll be in great shape. Looking for the quickest solution isn't always the best answer.

    Blog commenting helps.

    Article writing helps as well.

Social bookmarking of both of the above is nice as well, as it also helps the PR of the blog you've commented on.

Some great responses here, thanks people. I guess like a lot of people here, i've tried so many different ways of making a successful site, and done many of the things you should not do, but it's all about learning. I am a little impatient to see results, but I can see I do have to be patient, and just make sure I do all the right things now, and results will follow.

Someone mentioned about a plugin for FireFox that allows you to see all nofollow links on a web page, I will find out a little bit more about this, as it's free. I think it's called SearchStatus, hope this helps some people :)

    Anyway, thanks again.

A very basic question - how do you ping an articles address? Ping it to what????

I notice that Google indexes Hubpages frequently. I can see the number of backlinks from the comments I made in Hubpages in Webmaster report a week later.
Those comments in other blogs can take a few weeks.

I would think two factors come into play (1) how quickly the site you submitted your link to is crawled by google and (2) when google does an update.
