U can't learn something that's ongoing and ever changing. Just like learning Mobile security or Windows 2008 Server. Its unlike C++ or your VB.Net

SEO - experts should study constantly since search systems every day think out new algorithms. And new algorithms complicate a life seo - to the expert.

easy to learn, impossible to master.

I have been doing SEO for around a year and i pick up new techniques and methods everyday. You constantly have to react to your sites positions and traffic and come up with bespoke strategies for each site.

I have been learning (still in process) SEO since 1998. Almost 11 years now and still learning. Why still learning? Because things keep changing.

You can learn a lot in a month, but once you think you've learned it all, you will fall behind. Like those selling PR links, using link farms, using hidden text, or selling 1,000 search engine submissions.

You can never stop learning SEO, it took me all of thrity seconds to grasp the object of blog commenting and back links, the most basic stuff, I'm still learning new and better methods every day thanks to forums such as Digital Point.

From the time I opened my sites, I guess it was about a year later that everything started coming together.

SEO is like a puzzle. You have to take the pieces, and put them together so that the search engines can see the picture. But, sometimes the picture changes. So its a never ending process.

Learning new things will never end. And that includes SEO.

SEO is an ongoing learning process, like everything that evolves. And how long depends on the hours you put in each day/week, how much you read and test different strategies.

And it depends what level you want to reach. Example, you can learn to play tennis in 1 week, but are you any good? I doubt it!

    Cheers!

By its very nature SEO is an ongoing learning curve. Google change their algorithms regularly to stop "cheats" and blackhat techniques. Never buy an ebook that says it tells you everything about SEO, it cant possibly, unless it was written by a high ranking google exec (or techy) and was only written yesterday. Ive only been doing it a year and its totally mind boggling. Every day I get a moment of realisation about "one" area of SEO, only to be dragged down a different route the next day. Its a learning "circle" - never ending!
