By good money, I mean something around $5 dollars a day. How long did it take you to get to that point?

I started my site in August 2006 and it wasn't until about January of this year that I was averaging $5 or so a day. It's definitely been a slow, steady process for me, though I did see a significant spike in my traffic beginning (oddly enough) on the first of the year, which has brought another slow but steady rise in traffic and earnings. Earlier this month I reached my first double-digit day, and that's been followed by three more double-digit days after that.

The things that I think have helped me:

    1) I have a site with a topic that's a niche within a niche, so the ads are targeted to my site content fairly well

    2) I've got probably 325+ pages on my site, so plenty of opportunities for "long tail" searches to find me

    3) I've sent out lots of requests for backlinks, most of which have been answered with positive response from the sites I've been asking to link to me

With that said, I still have tons more work to do on my site. I plan to keep working on it indefinitely, in fact, as I think there's always going to be plenty of opportunity out there to earn through AdSense.

well.. my site was ad free for about 1 year before messing with any contexual ad systems.. so immediately I was able to get $5 or so..

But I have since tried starting a new site, and the new site is taking quite some time to average $5. I guess it all depends on how much time you have to put into your sites.. running more than 1 is quite the task as this is not my full time job...

for me it was about a day But, I added adsense to a site that was a couple years old and getting traffic. When I discovered adsense I added it to the site and started getting clicks immediately.
I have a lot of sites I have build with xsitepro (yes, that is an affiliate link) and to get the site to $5 per day takes me about 4 months. It can be done quicker but I don't have the time to promote as much as I'd like. If you had one site and worked on it, say 15 hours a week you could get to $5 in a few weeks.

    Hope this helps

I think it really depends on the site and what niche you're in. Some keywords pay a lot more than others. I have a dozen sites up now and they're making almost a dollar a day with minimal work.

When they start making around $10 a day, that's when I'll be happy.

I think it depends on how hard you work and how much content your putting in to your site and the type of niche.

If you have a very interesting site, people are bound to go on it and your going to start earning a lot of money and traffic.

If you open a site in a very tightly packed market like arcade/ proxy sites, it's going to be harder to get a decent amount of traffic and money.

Although if you have thousands of $$$ to promote your site, your going to get a lot of traffic in a short amount of time if you know what your doing. Many factors involved.. :)

OK, so what if I have a simple blog/site and I want to make $5 dollars a day from it. The keywords it would use would not be highly competitive, and I would not be spending any money promoting the site. The niche would be something that is not competitive either.

If I put minimal effort into it, other than posting on it once a day, and did not try to go out and get people to come to my site, how long would it take for my site to start receiving good traffic from search engines alone? Some people say 1 week, others say 8 months! (Oh, and I understand how to properly optimize my site for search engines and everything like that, so I'm really just asking for a time, not advice or "it depends on your niche" stuff.)

first time around, it took a few days, and i was making about $20 a day, then a few weeks later i was making anywhere from $30-$200, then my laziness ended, and i stopped being an @$$, and i closed that site, as google urged me to do :). and ive been working on my new site ever since, not making any money yet, but i should be in about 4 weeks.

I had a site making 2 bucks a day and got it to $10 bucks a day within a couple of months.. then $20 and I haven't looked back since! :)

Its almost like a snowball affect for me.. things just got bigger and better .. upgrading from shared hosting to VPS to Dedicated.

Its been really fun to watch my site grow and grow! :)

I can't wait to see what I am making in a year!

Impossible to say, could take a week, or never even happen.

If your putting minimal efforts into it, don't expect anything except minimal returns.

If you know how to do it already, like you said, just do it and you will know. You didnt want to hear this, but it does depend on your niche....

I started making websites back in August 2005. I added AdSense basically straight away and it's been a slow process but it is gradually going up. I'm not totally sure how long it took me to earn $5 daily but the graph below will show you my progress.

The blue line shows the rough $5 mark. I removed the y-axis labels because I didn't want exact numbers to be posted. Not sure why though because you can just guess from the line but I just don't like it anyway...

I'm still a long way off from my target of minimum $100 / day...

P.S. The huge spike in the middle was where one of my threads at DP earned $85 in 1 day!!!!!!! Struggle to make even $0.01 a day from DP now! :D

I made $5+ on the first day. That was nice since I had less than 20 clicks on that day.
