i started my forum like 3 months ago, and i've grown to 237 member just by sending out emails and advertising minimally on facebook. i plan to get into full swing of advertising by my fall sememster of college. but i was wondering how long it usually takes big forums to reach their peak. forums like this one. i'm not saying i expect mine to be as huge as this forum, but i would love it to be a decently sized forum .. say like 10000 members or so. how long do these things usually take to mature??

I have seen some good forums run by great people that have not made it.

You may have to keep at it for years. It sounds like word of mouth can work well for a community like yours.

    Good luck. :)

I've ran a few forums and I have never advertised or paid for advertising on them. Probably why mine barely get in the hundreds. I wish you luck with your forum, it is quite some work. I hope you have people helping you with it. :)

237 members is definitely good for 3 months in my book. Keep at it! It takes a while.

Its going to take at least 8 months for traffic to build up. But look for at least a year before you get any serious traffic.

For 3 months, you certainly already have a nice sized group of members at your forum. 10000 is a big number and you know that can't happen overnight. Like someone mentioned before give it time to grow... and see this as a long term thing and the numbers between now and a year from now is definitely up to you. And word of mouth is really the best form of marketing... like myspace, I believe has a lot of w.o.m marketing going on.

alrite .. i'm glad to see that i'm doing alrite. i started marketing this around finals time at the end of last semester .. so word of mouth didnt get spread around too much. but right now i'm currently littering freshmen groups on facebook with the forum, and this summer i am going to give out free t shirts on campus. then next semester i will do more advertising.

i want to advertise privately on my site, there are tons of shops in state college, but i do not know when i can start going to them and asking them to advertise. i get like 50-60 uniqes a day, and usually 250-350 pageviews a day. at what point do i have something to work with??
