I'm currently doing a link building campaign. I add potential link partners to an appropriate page on my website before I contact them.

BUT - I don't want my pages becoming cluttered with websites that don't reciprocate - I want to clear the space for other potential partners.

My question is, how long do you give someone to link to you before you delete the link you’ve given them?

Personally, I'd leave it there, but that's just personal opinion.

[don't forget that the links you list should be a helpful resource for site visitors too]

    I'd say a month.

Judging from my own pile of work, I'd say about 2-3 weeks.

Link requests don't have a high priority for me so I leave them until I cleared my slate and have nothing major to do.

Perhaps not the best way to go about it but you have to prioritize.

I would say a minimum of 2 to 4 weeks. Some aren't as excited to back link as others so in reality they are sometimes doing you the favor. So respect it, and if they disappear, their link does too.

I agree also with the 2 - 4 weeks window..

If you don't get a reciprocal by then, theres a good chance you'll never get one :(

I agree with everyone -- I leave them up there for a month and then go through and get rid of the ones that haven't reciprocated. Better to have more good quality links coming in that ones going out.

Thanks for those replies. I usually tend to leave it for about 2 weeks. One of the reasons for my post is that, by mistake, I did not delete a non-reciprocating link. A full five weeks after I added the link I got a reply to my e-mail and the person reciprocated. Got me thinking!

Another reason I posted is I've filled in the forms on a number of websites in the past fortnight who use LinksManager to manage their links. I'd say the response rate from these people (who are paying for Links software) has been poorer  so far than the response to e-mail requests - I would have thought these people, knowing the importance of linking would have been quick off the mark.

    Any thoughts? :)

Make the top of your list resources that are good for your visitors whether or not they recip. It should be good for your customers/visitors. That aside, set a limit 2 to 4 weeks for the rest to recip and then remove - be sure to e-mail at least twice first, you never know what happens to the first e-mail.
