How long before Google finds my site?

OK here's another dumb question, treat me gently I'm new here . . .

I build my site, start building backlinks, submit it to Google etc. How long does it take before Google 'finds' my site? It's been about a week and still if I cut and paste my URL into the search box my site doesn't show. Does this mean I've been sandboxed or am I just being impatient?

Are you providing interesting and unique content to you site every day? Are you writing articles and submitting them? Blog posting? If you are doing this stuff and doing it well, you should get indexed soon. I recently had a blog indexed in just 9 days by doing the above. It's the second blog in my signature box...

Just put it one places where google visits frequently, it doesn't matter where as long as google see it.

It depends on the pages where you have added your link. These days social bookmarkings are best for the new websites to crawl it easily by google in few hours.

You should create a sitemap and submit it to "Webmaster Tools" in your Google account. This will make it easier for Google to spider your pages.

If your domain name contains a competitive keyword then it wont show up with just url in search box, unless its old enough...thus while checking whether its indexed or not search like following,

You gotta post backlinks to it.
    I suggest using social bookmarking.

Sometimes I see sites get found in hours. I know another site that has no indexed pages after months. Its a business website.

Friend you cant estimate the accurate time of indexing your website. Like sometimes google cached some pages quickly and sometimes google takes long time to get your website indexed.

It depends on your backlinks more than content. Good backlinks from Yahoo Answers, Digg etc can easily get your site indexed.

My site has been live for 10 days. I got a blog, a facebook page, 40 unique articles posted and have been commenting on relevant do-follow blogs. I think I'm sandboxed . . .

Usually sites do get indexed in first few days, try submitting a sitemap to google webmaster - http://www.google.com/webmasters/

It will shorten the time if you can make good use of Google Webmaster Tools.

Did you try putting the link to your blog in your signature space here?
It is a sure shot and faster way to getting indexed! Google crawls DP fairly regularly and so your link is bound to get visited... equally fast! :)

If you want Google to index your site quick, do a Digg of your site, and you should see it indexed within 24 hours.

Then Ping your site using some free services to submit your website to search engines.
