How long before a link shows up?

I'm trying to add as much quality backlinks as possible. I've done some directory submissions and comment on do-follow blogs.

So does anybody know how long before it will start showing as a backlink? Like if i type in Link:domain in google or use a backlink checker tool?

    Is really the only answer.

DP posts can make it into google within moments. Some directories on the other hand can take months. It really just "depends" ;)

There's really no easy answer.. Sometime it could take days or other times it could take months... It really depends on how often the web crawlers visit the websites with the backlinks to your site...

I think this answer has been wrapped up. If you have posted on a forum that has no visitors and no links pointing back to it then that link will never show up. Work on your link development every day, then check your incoming links in a months time. Repeat, rinse

yahoo starts showing backlinks in as little as few days. google might take months. there is no fixed time intervals between submissions and showing of your backlinks. just keep building and they will show.

It can take a few weeks for the file to be indexed.

The search engines are quite fast in finding new backlinks. However Google won't show all backlinks.
Use Yahoo to check your progress, it won't take more than a week to see your backlinks.

"Link:domain in google?" rather using this approach use google web master tools or yahoo site explorer. Link:domain usually never displays all backlinks and takes more time.

Google doesn't show you all of your inbound links. i.e. it only shows 158 for http://blogbadly.com when I actually have 10k+

There is not a specific amount of time because it varies from one site to the other.

This truly depends on the sites and how quickly the search engines index them.
